SHOW HOLIDAY!
Welcome back to the second term of the 2015 school year. I trust that everyone has had a safe and
enjoyable break and are ready for what promises to be another busy term. From our calendar of events, I
know that the next 10 weeks will be extremely busy with classroom activities being complemented by a
range of extra-curricular activities. This term we have NAPLAN, Inter-house sport, NAIDOC week, Disco,
School Photos, Life Education, reporting and more. I would strongly recommend that all students settle
quickly back into the routine and engage with every learning opportunity. The best way to be confident
and happy is to be in control of what is expected. Working together, I am sure we can have another great
term.
Over the holidays work continued in and around our school. Our groundsman, Mr Curd and Tree Loppers
were busy removing a number of golden canes. New air-conditioners were installed in prep 1 and C Block.
Areas of the floor of our SEU were taken up and replaced. This damage is a legacy of the 2013 floods with
the floor rotting due to the severe water damage. All in all our school buildings and grounds are in
excellent condition for the start of school. D B Ambrose

We are now calling for Inter-House Sport Shirts for screen printing. Please hand shirts (CLEARLY
ND
LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME AND CLASS) to the school office by FRIDAY, 22 MAY. Shirts will
be screen printed and returned to students in readiness for our Inter-house Sports Day. We confirm
house colours are as follows:* BURNETT – BLUE *
* MILLAQUIN – RED *
* PETERSEN – YELLOW *
Coloured t-shirts/polo’s are usually available from Big W, K-Mart, Target & Best & Less.
New students may find out their house by asking our administration staff.
CENTENARY OF ANZAC
All members of our school community including
friends and family are invited to participate in our
commemoration of The Centenary of Anzac tomorrow,
FRIDAY 24 APRIL STARTING AT 9.00am SHARP.
We will start the day with the students assembling in
their class groups along the fence line bordering Olsen
Park. We will be joined by many ‘former Easties’, some
who will arrive in restored military vehicles on Olsen
Park. The ASLAVs will make their entry onto the oval
and complete a short display of their movements
before parking. The crews will be welcomed by our
school leaders before moving to our Memorial to
settle for the formal service. The Year 6 students will
take control of the ceremony. Our service will include
our traditional bagpipes, Naval Cadet Catafalque party
and the solemn laying of wreathes. We hope to see
you there.
Paul McMillen PSM Anzac Day Coordinator
PARKING FOR ANZAC DAY SERVICE
As we will be having many ‘former Easties’ attending
our service, parking will be quite congested. If you are
fit to walk, we ask you to park a little further away to
allow more room for the less mobile of the older
guests. We are being joined by members of the
Bundaberg Police who will be providing supervision
and security for our visiting vehicles. Please make their
job easier.
OLSEN PARK CLEARANCE
Olsen Park will used by the Army vehicles for their
display before our Parade and so access will be
restricted. We ask that parents and friends avoid
crossing the park on foot as we approach school time.
Two entry points for the vehicles, marked with
witches’ hats will be reserved at either end of the
Skyring Street side of the park. Please avoid parking
near these points.
ANZAC DAY MERCHANDISE
We will have Anzac stickers and tattoos (50c) for sale
tomorrow morning in readiness for our ceremony.
They will be available at the library until sold out.
ANZAC DAY MORNING TEA
th
With this year’s Anzac Day being the 100
Anniversary, there will be quite a few extra invited
guests for morning tea after our parade. If there are
any families who would like to donate a small plate of
food for the morning tea it would be greatly
appreciated. Donations can be left in the STAFFROOM
tomorrow morning.
BUNDABERG ANZAC DAY MARCH
INVITATION
All students are invited to march behind our school
banner on Saturday morning in the Bundaberg Anzac
Day March down Bourbong Street to Anzac Park
beside the pool. Please assemble near the Target
building at 8.00am ready to march at 8.30am. It
would be best to wear a hat and bring a water bottle
as it will be hot. Parents can pick their children up
from Anzac Park at the duration of the service.
ANZAC DAY IN BUNDABERG
The Bundaberg Dawn Service starting time is 4.28am. The
Parade will assemble outside the RSL at 4.10am, then
marching to the Cenotaph at 4.24am. Mounting of the
Catafalque Party is at 4.28am at the Bundaberg Cenotaph,
Cnr. Bourbong and Barolin Sts.
The Bargara & Elliott Heads Dawn Services are scheduled
for 5.30am & Elliott Heads Memorial Service at 11.15am.
FREE DRESS DAY – On the last day of term 1 our Student
Council held a Free Dress Day and raised $623.25 for
Thangool State School to help them replace their library
resources which were damaged during the cyclone earlier
this year! What a top effort East School!
GREAT RESULTS APPROVAL
Over the holiday our GRG proposal of $160,820 for 2015
was signed off by the Director General Mr Jim
Watterston. Our proposal includes the following: Employment of Teacher Aides to
support literacy and numeracy
$110,000
 Development of learning plans and
their review. Purchase of resources for
reading
$ 30,568
 Professional development of staff
$ 20,252
$160,820
Programs utilizing these funds are already in place and
providing practical benefits for students. We will
continue to monitor the effectiveness of the programs
we have in place to ensure that maximum return is being
achieved for the money expended.
NETBALL TRIALS
Our school has nominated a netball team to play at
the CQ Regional Shield in Rockhampton on 16th and
17th of July. The girls who have returned an
Expression of Interest in trialling for the Bundaberg
East State School Netball Team are reminded that
the first trial will be TOMORROW, FRIDAY 24TH
APRIL FROM 2:45PM TO 4:00PM. The next trial will
be on Friday 1st May from 2:45pm to 4:00pm. An
Expression of Interest signed by a parent must be
returned to Mrs Ash to be allowed to trial.
AFL WIN
Well done to Mr Pozzebon and our AFL boys on a top win
in the Gala Day held on the second last day of Term 2.
The boys came out on top by a score of 19-15 over
Moore Park. The win provided the team with automatic
entry into the Wide Bay finals carnival to be held later
this term. Well done boys and all the best for the next
round.
DEVELOPMENT CUP
Last night our Development Cup Team came away with a
good win over a spirited Agnes Water team. The final
score was 18 to 4 with East running in 4 tries from
LOGAN, BAYLEY AND BAILEY scoring 2. A conversion was
successful by WIL. Well done to Mr Pozzebon and the
boys and a special thanks to all the parents and staff who
came along to support the boys.
SOCCER REPRESENTATIVE: Well done to OWEN
COLLINS on his selection in the Bundaberg District
Boys Soccer Team. Owen has worked hard to gain
selection and I commend him on his dedication towards
this goal. We would like to wish Owen all the best for the
Wide Bay Trials to be held later this term. Well Done.
LEARNING PLANS
Late last term we completed the development of
Learning Plans for all students in the school. These plans
will now become a blueprint towards which students,
teachers and parents work for the benefit of students. It
is important that more than lip-service is given to the
plans and that we continually review and reflect on the
progress made. Later this term end of semester reports
will provide a benchmark for progress made on the plans
and at the end of Term 3 we will once again be offering
the opportunity or all stakeholders to come together and
review the progress that has been made.
SCHOOL PHOTO DAY
Advancedlife Photography will attend our
school on TUESDAY 2nd JUNE to take school photos. You
may wish to mark your calendar!! Order envelopes will
be distributed to all students during week 4.
Prices will range from $26.00 to $45.00, catering for
every budget.

this garden a special place.
