Moriarty Park Disco
It was great to see so many of our students at the disco last Friday night. They all
behaved beautifully and appeared to have a blast dancing away in their PJ’s. I’d
like to thank our Moriarty Park Student Representatives for their leadership and
assistance throughout the night. Thank you Mia (6A), Emma (6B) and Sienna (6B). Thank
you also to the following senior students for also providing assistance – Connor (5A), Cooper
(5B), Jesse (6A), Trad (6A), Georgia (6B).
Broadwater District Cross Country Trials
Congratulations to the many students who are participating in the District Cross Country
Trials today. We wish you the very best and hope you enjoy yourself.
Whole School Responsible Behaviour Plan
Last year Canungra State School underwent a Discipline Audit. The purpose of the Discipline
Audit is to provide quality feedback on how the school is ensuring a safe, supportive and
disciplined learning environment and to inform school behaviour management planning
processes. The school was provided with the Auditor’s report and key findings as a result of
the Audit. The report’s Executive Summary and 5 page Profile is available to parents and
caregivers on the school’s web site.
One of the recommendations was for us to consider forming a Behaviour Management Team
to review the current Whole School Responsible Behaviour Plan. In Term 1 we formed this
Behaviour Management Team (made up of Administration Staff, Teaching Staff, Nonteaching Staff and a Parent Representative) and we have commenced this review process.
We are looking forward to sharing this work over the course of 2015.
Our current Responsible Behaviour Plan is based on the following rights:
• The rights of all students to learn
• The rights of all teachers to teach
• The rights of all to be safe
At Canungra State School staff do their best to provide an environment that consists of high
expectations for student behaviour along with necessary strategies and support to assist
students make positive behaviour choices. We also understand and appreciate the support
we receive from our families when it comes to teaching appropriate behaviour and value the
time and effort parents devote to developing positive behaviour at home. Positive outcomes
are far more likely when we work in partnership for our kids.

Trees in Prep Playground
This coming Friday afternoon we will be removing the two trees that are directly in front of the
Prep Playground. We are very sad about doing this as they add character and lovely shade
to the area but unfortunately their roots are beginning to cause significant structural damage
to the Prep building. They have also been causing ongoing damage to underground
plumbing. We contracted an arborist to investigate and his recommendation was to lop them
ASAP – so sadly, they will be going

PHONE CALLS
The last couple of weeks the
office has been inundated with
parents ringing regarding pick up
or YMCA change of plans.
INSTRUMENTAL FEES
All instrumental students pay
$30 for classes and those
hiring an instrument owe
another $120. Invoices have
been produced..
We understand this can’t be
helped sometimes. Could you please
ensure that your children are
aware of picking up arrangements
before they leave home in the
mornings as this is very disruptive
to the teachers and office staff.

DEPUTY’S DEN
Lost Property
I spoke to the students on
parade
yesterday
about
taking
responsibility for their own belongings.
I could imagine how frustrating it is for
parents when jumpers, hats and
tracksuit pants go missing and they
can’t be found. I reminded students
that it is their responsibility not their
parents to ensure that their belongings
are put away if they are taken off.
Please encourage your child to also
check the lost property bin if they have
recently lost an item of clothing. I
would also like to remind parents that
the Uniform Shop is open every Friday
morning before school and it also has
a good variety of second-hand clothes.

Important Messages from the Coordinator:
We have had a renovation make over! We are all exited with our new
changes, equipment and furniture.
Holiday Club Flyer forms will be distributed to each classroom for your
child to bring home. Bookings can be made by completing the insert
and returning it to YMCA. These can also be scanned and emailed
back to our email [email protected]
We have worked very hard to plan a jammed packed winter holidays
for your children. All bookings are welcome and if you have any
questions please feel free to pop in or give us a call.
Coming into winter, we understand that it can be very hard leaving
your children at the school early in the cold. YMCA are looking for
expressions of interest for our Before school care program. This will
not affect those who would like to still drop their children off. Our
program offers parents with the opportunity to put their children into
care from 6:30 am until school begins where they will enjoy relaxing
and stimulating activities and a healthy breakfast. If you are interested
please email us or sign the petition form in the school office.
