Being able to quickly evaluate and re-evaluate a client’s
physical status from visit to visit is crucial to providing the
best possible treatment for that client. It helps the
therapist to focus their treatment, and to give the
appropriate education to the client post massage. This
course takes a muscle memory approach to orthopedic
assessment and reduces testing protocols to bite-sized
groupings that students will be able to perform in modules
of 2 minutes or less. These assessment protocols will yield
accurate results with your clients.
This one day course will present a detailed anatomical
review of the liver, stomach and duodenum - position,
fascias, innervation, function and mobility - as well as a
variety of techniques from sensorial listening, assessment of
fascial restrictions to direct fascial manipulation and

Axillary web syndrome (AWS), also called lymphatic
cording, typically presents in the weeks after axillary
surgery for breast cancer. This painful condition is likely
angiolymphatic in origin. It restricts use of the upper
extremity and has no established treatment although
physical therapy and other approaches have been used
to variable effect. We apply therapeutic massage
techniques using Dynamic Angular Petrissage (DAP) with
the aim of quickly but gently reducing upper extremity
pain and improving range of motion. DAP is a prerequisite
for this course.
Introduction to an overview of the most prevalent
cancers in the general public and the common
presentations of these clients. Therapists will learn how to
safely assess cancer therapeutic needs of clients prior to
massage treatments, and how to manage ongoing
health concerns as clients work through possible
chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments. Indications
and contraindications for massage treatments will be
discussed. Practical portion will help teach therapists
acupressure points that are most indicated for this group
with explanation of theory behind practice.

MANUAL APPROACH TO WORKING IN THE PELVIC REGION

This course is based on the principles of Dynamic Posture and Spiraldynamik. It emphasizes improvement of the function
of the pelvic region – especially normalization of the muscle tone and circulation, and uses myofascial techniques to
loosen scar tissue in the abdominal cavity. It is an effective supportive approach for individuals who have functional
gynecological and urinary disorders. Emphasis is put on external manual treatment of malpositions of the coccyx and
activation of the pelvic floor musculature. In addition to manual therapy, specific exercises for the lumbar and pelvic

Nayida Bowen, MScPT, BSc - Nayida has been a physiotherapist since 2003. She has her Masters of Physical Therapy from
the University of Toronto. She has participated in a number of post-graduate courses to learn Mulligan and McKenzie
treatment techniques, lumbar and pelvic spinal manipulation techniques, therapeutic taping, and clinical exercise.
Paul Lewis, BA, RMT, NCBTMB - Paul is a graduate of Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic. He has presented
workshops in Japan, Europe, USA and Canada. He has a clinic in Mississauga where he uses DAP to augment his
treatments. He has won Telly awards for his 2 multi-lingual DVDs. He is also a reflexologist, Combined Decongestive
Therapist, yoga and fitness instructor.
Michael Lott, RMT - After graduation from Sutherland-Chan School in 1997, Michael started working at the S-C Metro
Centre Clinic and at the Toronto Healing Arts Centre. He went on to study Reiki and became a Reiki Master in
1999. Michael has also taken Reflexology, Craniosacral Therapy, athletic taping, and general business.
Monica Noy, D.O.M.P., RMT - Monica is an osteopathic manual practitioner. She has been a sessional teacher with
Sutherland-Chan School and a Continuing Education instructor for several years. Monica teaches advanced palpation
and biomechanics for therapists and her areas of focus are fascial and visceral.
Katerina Pek, MD (cz), RMT - Dr. Katerina Pek obtained her medical degree from Charles University in Prague. She
worked as a physician in the Czech Republic for six years specializing in internal medicine and rehabilitation. After
moving to Canada, Katerina continued to broaden her knowledge and skills to include the most current and effective
manual therapy techniques and natural healing methods from North America and Europe. She has worked as a natural
health counselor and a registered massage therapist since 1989.
Dr. Hanifa Menen and Dr. Jeff Appelmann - Hanifa & Jeff have worked together for several years and between them
have a combined 25+ years of experience with Naturopathic Medicine. Hanifa has a B.S. degree specializing in
Neuropsychology and a ND degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). She completed a
two-year Postgraduate Residency program with a focus on Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. She has taught various
courses and classes to students in colleges and universities. Jeff has B.S. degree in Biochemistry and a ND degree from
CCNM. A strong focus of his practice lies in the prevention and treatment of various forms of cancer.
