LENT IN JAPAN: MISSION, MARTYRS, AND MEDITATION

This Lent, take on a journey of prayer and meditation with a difference – in the Land of the
Rising Sun. Celebrate the hope which our faith presents in a journey which traces the steps
of 26 martyrs, from Kyoto to Nagasaki to face their death. Commonly known as St Paul Miki
and Companions whose feast we celebrate on 6 February, Paul Miki was the first Japanese
member of a religious order. As you explore the missionary journeys of the great Spanish
Jesuit and Franciscan missionaries, St Francis Xavier and St Peter Baptist in Japan, you will
be lead in meditation sessions under the cherry blossoms that herald an Eternal Spring. In
2015, the Church in Japan celebrates the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Hidden
Christians in Nagasaki, who for 250 years, under strict prohibition, bravely protected and
proclaimed their faith. Come on the journey to learn about the history of salvation prepared
for Japan by God!
