Mission Statement
We are a Catholic school community based on
Gospel values. We will encourage all
members of our community to show dignity
and respect for each other as we develop
spiritually, socially and intellectually.
They slept that night in the garden of olives
- but Christ rose again.
They ran away and le him all alone
- but Christ rose again.
They called for his death and Pilate gave in
- but Christ rose again.
They scourged him ll the blood flowed down
- but Christ rose again.
They pierced his brow with a crown of thorns
- but Christ rose again.
They nailed him to the wood of the cross
- but Christ rose again.
They jeered and laughed and taunted him
- but Christ rose again.
They opened his side with a soldier’s lance
- but Christ rose again.
They laid him in a rock-hewn borrowed tomb
- but Christ rose again.
New world, new life, new grace
- but Christ rose again.
Amen

PEACE ASSEMBLY
MARCH 25, 2015
March’s Peace assembly was on the virtue
of love. Claire, Justin, Quintin, Jeremy and
Sophie ran the assembly on this virtue. A
slideshow presentation was shown about
the virtue of love. This included what love
is and how to show love in our community.
The assembly was wrapped up with a
Prayer for Love. It was another wonderful
assembly put on by one of St. Joe’s
leadership teams.
Blessed are the Peacemakers
We recognize the work of students who
best exemplify the qualities of being a
peacemaker. It is not a one-time thing
but actions that are displayed over
a period of time. Thus the name
“Blessed are the Peacemakers.”
The winners were Jed L-M, Emma E (Kgtn),
Madeleine K (Gr. 1), Rosalie T (Gr. 2), William
D, Ella T, Abby B (Gr. 3), Carley S, Anouk H
(Gr. 4), Nate W (Gr. 5), Julia A, Ashley A,
Brigid B(Gr. 6)
Congratulations on a job well done!
PEACE ASSEMBLY
Our next Peace Assembly will be on
Wednesday, May 6th at 1:15 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to join us in the gym.
CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL
The next meeting of the School Council
will be on Tuesday, April 14th at 6:30
pm. Everyone is welcome.
BEACON OF HOPE
The Board hosted its “Beacons of Hope”
breakfast on Tuesday, March 31st at the
Travelodge Hotel to celebrate the accomplishments of our students. “There are many
students whose contributions to our school
and the wider community reflect our Catholic
virtues. Not likely to be recognized in other
venues, these unsung heroes contribute to
the betterment of the community with
dedication, integrity and gentle spirit.”
St. Joseph Catholic School honoured
Sarah Paradis on this day for all of her
efforts as a member of the Legacy and Leadership Committees, participation in Making a
Difference days, reading buddies, helping
the St. Joseph Youth Group, her volunteerism
and a genuine commitment to others.
“She never hesitates to do any extra job
that is asked of her. She does it to the best
of her ability and always does it with a smile!”
This is another great example of a student
who “Builds Peace at St. Joseph’s.”

collection spots.
We are collecting the following items to support
Eco Team activities:

Earth Day takes place
on Wednesday, April 22.
We will be having
activities during this week
to celebrate the Earth and
to think of ways that we
can help all of God’s
creation. In 1980 St Francis was declared the
patron saint of ecologists and our Church
encourages each one of us to take care of the
Earth and all of God’s living creatures. To
find out more about Earth Day, you can go
to http://www.earthday.ca
Keep The Used
Batteries Coming In
The Estimated Prize Pool
Is Over $4000!
We have until April 24th, Earth Week, to
send in as many household batteries as
we can collect. Our first 45 gallon
drum is heading off this week to be
weighed and sorted and that puts us
just behind the top ten schools in the
contest. Therefore we need your used
batteries to climb the list to a
winning spot. With your help we have a
great chance to be in the prize pool!
Milk Bags for
Bed Mats
A local Girl Guide Group
is making bed mats from
the outer plastic bags that
hold three bags of milk.
One of our students is involved in this project and needs our help to gather
enough bags. If you can help out please send the
bags in to Mrs. Robinson’s class. With scissors, crochet hook and willing hands, the girls will transform
the bags into washable,
quick-dry bed mats which provide an alternative to
sleeping on the damp, hard ground. Thank you.
CROSS
COUNTRY
RUNNING
Cross-Country Running season is upon us and
practices have already started. The students in
Grades 3 and 4 will meet in the gym to practice Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:30 while the Grades
5 to 8 students train Monday and Wednesdays after
school. This year’s Cross-Country Meet will be held
again at Zwick’s Park on Tuesday, May 12th with the
rain date on Wednesday, May 13th if needed.
If you have any questions or concerns about
Cross-Country Running, please contact Mrs.
McGillen, Mrs. Power, or Mrs. Coates.
MILK
Students may purchase milk cards for $15.00/card
(20 milk). The card may be used any time during
this school year.
