Bayer-Austin-GCCISD Internship 2015 Internship The Bayer – Austin – GCCISD Internship began in the spring of 2012. It is a one-year program designed for three (3) graduating GCCISD Career & Technical Education students interested in pursuing a career in the construction and maintenance industry. The purpose of the program is to provide youth with an opportunity to identify the craft in which they excel through a series of maintenance rotations under the direction of a mentor. To qualify for the Internship Program, students must have completed their senior year prior to the start of the program and must be 18 years of age by June 15th and have a Social Security card and State ID/driver’s license. This is a competitive program and an interview committee will evaluate each applicant for demonstration of construction aptitude and skills recorded on resumes and exhibited during the interview process, as well as and an interest in pursuing a career in the construction industry. Students and parents should ready this information packet closely to be sure they fully understand the internship expectations and will be able to fully commit to the program. Interns will need to purchase the following: One pair of steel toe boots with a defined ½ “ heel, Long sleeve flame resistant clothing (FRCs), Additional equipment might be required depending on craft training. Coursework Expectations Enroll in at least one construction related course per semester at a local community college, Plan ahead to meet required registration deadlines for college courses, Complete coursework and maintain good academic standing. Tuition is paid, participants are expected to maintain a grade point average of 3.0 and attend classes regularly. Exhibit initiative, be coachable, follow policy, and strive to maintain perfect attendance Interns who demonstrate a high degree of work ethic and soft-skills will have an opportunity for ongoing employment at the end of their internship. Students who are offered a contract will have the opportunity to choose a craft area of focus.
