FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE:
Indiana law is requires all 6-12th graders show proof of
an immunization booster for pertussis (whooping cough
Tdap), meningococcal disease, and 2 doses of varicella
(chickenpox) vaccine or a written history of the month
and year of disease.
If your student has had these immunizations, please
send in the required documentation of the immunizations.
The health department will no longer be able to give
immunizations to children with health insurance as they
have done in the past. If you are covered by health
insurance, please see your family physician. The health
department will continue to serve those families with no
insurance and families with any form of Medicaid.

Story time
Want to spend time with
your child, build their
reading skills, and help
them learn to love books.
You can do all three when
you read aloud to them.
Here are some suggestions.
Read regularly. Try to
read to your child every
day. You might aim for
10-15 minutes of bedtime
reading for a peaceful end
to the day. Tuck read-alouds into the time when dinner
is in the oven. Or curl up together with a book when you
get home from work.
Take turns choosing books. Your child may want to
hear old favorites again and again. Use your turn for
new titles and variety (nonfiction, poetry).
Let them participate. Ask your child to turn the pages
while you read. Also, they can finish sentences that
rhyme or fill in words they know. Go slowly so they
have time to understand the story and look at the
illustrations. They will enjoy read-aloud time more if
they play an active role.
Be playful. You can use different voices for different
characters (a high, squeaky voice for a chicken or a deep,
booming voice for a horse). Substitute your child’s name
for the main character’s name, and use family members’
names for other characters. Note: You don’t have to be
an expert reader, your child will love it when you read
aloud because it’s you.
Attention Parents,
There is a concern about pets being brought around
when the students are arriving and being dismissed.
Some students might be afraid of animals, so we all
need to take that into consideration. Thanks for
your cooperation with this matter.
