n the following pages you will find a schedule of activities and sessions
offered during our Spring Open House. Parents and students are welcome
to split up and attend different sessions. We encourage everyone to attend the
welcome at 8:30 a.m. and the social hour at 1:00 p.m.
You should take every chance you get to meet people, ask lots of questions, and
imagine yourself in this community—on campus and in Hyde Park’s many

Model Class: English Literature
David Bevington is the Phyllis Fay Horton Distinguished Service Professor
Emeritus in the Department of English, as well as the Chair of the Theater
and Performance Studies program. He is the one of the most prominent
Shakespearean scholars working today.

Meredith Daw, Executive Director of Career Advancement, will discuss
professional opportunities available for students through our eight co-curricular
career programs.

Model Class: The Anthropology of the Chicago Blues
Michael Dietler is a Professor of Anthropology, as well as an associated faculty
member in Classics and Social Sciences in the College. He also teaches courses
on Chicago Blues and has further ethnomusicological interests in Celtic and
African popular music.
Study Abroad
Lauren Schneider, Program Coordinator in the Study Abroad office, will
explain our dynamic study abroad programs.

Model Class: Biology
Matthew Brady is an Associate Professor in the Department of MedicineSection of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. His research focuses on
regulation of insulin sensitivity and energy metabolism. He teaches classes in
Endocrinology in the Biological Sciences Collegiate Division.
UChicago Experience
An admissions counselor and several UChicago students will give a general
overview of what it’s like to be a UChicago student.
