SD #10, in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern BC seeks a visionary, innovative VicePrincipal to join Nakusp Elementary School, a dynamic Grade K-7 school in Nakusp, BC. We’re looking
for an enthusiastic and creative leader and have a great team of teachers, support staff, parents,
students, and community for you to work alongside. Nakusp Elementary School is developing
innovative practice using its skilled staff, strong community and beautiful location to move learning
forward for students in cross-curricular and project-based practice. We’re good – and on our way to
great!
Our small rural district is staffed with people who care about students and who go the extra distance –
literally and figuratively - to make a difference! You will lead by example with your dedication and
commitment to our school and community. We are blessed not only with breathtaking geography –

As Vice-Principal at Nakusp Elementary School, you will have exemplary organizational and planning
skills, and have a thorough knowledge of BC public schools and the BCEdPlan. You are an
experienced rural middle or elementary school educator and are seen leading change and
educational transformation. Your role requires that you have proven capabilities meeting the unique
needs of a diverse school community. Of course, you will love teaching and learning, and lead by
example with a passion for the work that is the base of what we do as educators – inspiring that love
of learning in our students! You are a reflective and highly competent leader poised to make a
difference in a small school amongst a community that has tremendous assets – our people, our
caring, and our commitment to doing everything we can to engage all learners. You’ll fit in wonderfully
to our school and district team!
Qualifications and Attributes:
 A Master's degree or actively progressing through a Master’s degree in an appropriate field of leadership
or curriculum
 Superb abilities as a teacher, in leading learning, and in building relationships
 Outstanding ability as a teacher and strength in teaching intermediate level classes
 Proven experience in educational leadership and educational transformation

 Proficient use of technology to support teaching, learning, and administrative tasks
 A practice embedded in current pedagogical research and commitment to on-going professional
development and personal growth
 Involvement and leadership in professional inquiry and collaborative teams

 Commitment to being an active member of the district administrative team
 Demonstrated ability to work well with parents and the community in support of student learning
 Willingness to participate in extra-curricular activities
 Sense of humour, strong work ethic and effective interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
 Eligible for membership by the BC Teacher Regulation Branch
This assignment includes a .6 FTE teaching assignment to be determined in consultation with the Principal.
