May 6, 2015 SEAHOLM HIGH SCHOOL - AM Announcements 5-6-15 Mary Kate: Broadcasting from Studio B201, this is the Seaholm Daily Bulletin for Wednesday, May 6th, 2015 with Alex Wineman and Annie Trotta. Alex: Thanks Mary Kate and good morning Seaholm! Alex: Seaholm has been doing very well in sports and academics this spring! First, congratulations to juniors Daniel Evans, Kelly Teahan, and Maclane Paddock for being nominated for the National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing. There were only seven of these prestigious awards given in Michigan, and Daniel Evans earned one of them! Daniel also won the State Oratorical Contest this year! Congratulations also to congratulations to the Birmingham Robotics Team ending an outstanding season as Semi-Finalists at World Championships! And finally, congratulations go out to Holly Basile, who wrapped up her gymnastics season with an outstanding performance at the regional meet in South Bend! She represented “Team Michigan” in her age group and led her team with the highest all-around score for the state. Holly took 1st place on both Vault and Beam, took 3rd on Floor and placed 3rd AllAround. With over 600 gymnasts competing, Holly ranked 23rd in the region. Go Mapes! Alex: In other sports news, Seaholm dropped Game 1 of a double header Monday against Farmington Harrison, by a score of 5-4. Game 2 was rained out, but will resume today in the bottom of the 5th inning with the Maples trailing by 1. The third game of the series will follow after the completion of that game. Start time is 4:30. Alex: Friday is the last day to send in pictures for the senior video. Send them to [email protected] and make sure they include appropriate pictures of only Seaholm seniors. Alex: Are you interested in performing on Maple Field and cheering for the Seaholm Maple Football team in the fall? The Seaholm Cheerleading Team will be holding tryouts for the sideline season, Monday through Wednesday, June 1 – 3, from 5:30 – 7:30 PM in the Fitness Center. There is an informational meeting to learn more and ask questions on Thursday, May 28th at 3 PM in Classroom F111. The openings include careers in interior design, small business owners, manufacturing, accounting, construction and more. Alex: Sickle-cell disease, also known as sickle-cell anemia, is a hereditary blood disorder and is associated with a number of acute and chronic health problems, such as severe infections, attacks of severe pain, stroke, and an increased risk of death. To help combat this disease a Yoga Class will be held in the gym this Saturday, May 9th at May 6, 2015 SEAHOLM HIGH SCHOOL - AM Announcements 9:00am sharp. Tickets can be purchased from A105 - or at the door - and cost a minimum of $5 in donation. So bring your friends and family, and give to a good cause, as instructor, Katy Reider from Cranbook High School helps start your Saturday morning right. Alex: In celebration of teacher appreciation week, there will be posters hung in the main hallway downstairs for each teacher. Please sign the posters with messages to your teachers to show that you appreciate them. Alex: Students looking for community service hours can contact Mrs. Stahl in the College Center. Three additional ushers are required to help with the Senior Awards Assembly from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Duties include handing out programs and helping serve lemonade and cookies after ceremony at the reception. Students can email Mrs. Stahl through the Seaholm email at- jstahl -if interested. Alex: Come out and support the girls soccer team when they take on Groves this Friday night. All 3 teams will be playing against Groves starting at 4, with the Varsity game at 7pm. Go Mapes! Alex: Seniors: Two speakers are needed for the graduation ceremony on May 31st. Auditions will be held in the auditorium on Friday, May 15th at 3:00 p.m. You can sign up to audition in the Assistant Principal's Office, but must do so by May 11th. Speeches should be 5 minutes long and must be typed for submission at the audition. You must bring 8 copies to the audition. Alex: There are two additional AP Econ review sessions after school on May 12th and 13th from 2:50 PM to 4PM. These are the last days before the AP test, so please plan on coming for one, final push toward the finish line. Please let Mr. Smith know if you will be attending these EXTRA sessions.
