P: Christ is risen indeed!
L: This is the day that the Lord has made.
P: Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
*HYMN
“Jesus Christ Is Risen Today”
PH 123
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O God, you heal the brokenhearted; save us from sin when we
inflict pain on our neighbors. We bear grudges against those who
deceive us. We seek revenge on those who hurt us. Some we judge
inferior, since they don't meet our standards. Others we deem
unworthy of our respect and support. Jesus had compassion upon
all who were afflicted. Forgive us, O God, when our hearts are
hardened against neighbors in need. Forgive us for living as though
the stone were not rolled back and Jesus did not rise from the grave
and thus give us a new life and a new hope. Amen
*SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
L: Sisters and brothers, let us work for the good of all and for those
in the family of faith. Believe the good news of the Gospel.
P: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”

things of earth will grow strangely dim In the light of his glory and
grace.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

L: Do you believe in Jesus Christ?
P: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and
in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy
Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was
crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose
again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right
hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge
the quick and the dead.
L: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?
P: I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion

Without the risen Savior in our hearts, life is like:
• A chocolate Easter Bunny — empty on the inside;
• An Easter bonnet — easily blown off kilter;
• Last year's Easter outfit — it doesn't quite fit right;
• An Easter lily — it soon withers and dries up;
• A bag of jellybeans — sugary and sweet but lacking substance;
• An unfound Easter basket — full of gifts that spoil and go to waste;
• A colored Easter egg — looks great but cracks under pressure;
• The Easter bunny — always hopping here and there;
• Marshmallow Peeps — becomes hard when opened up;
• Easter parade — a long journey with no destination;
• An unopened Easter card — a message of love unclaimed.
After the April 2013 suicide of his 27-year-old son, Matthew, pastor and
author, Rick Warren was often asked how he was able to keep going.
His frequent reply? “The answer is Easter.” In the Easter sermons
Warren preached the following year, he emphasized that Jesus’
resurrection is the answer to discouragement, defeat and devastating
trials. “The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus happened over three
days,” Warren explained. “Friday was the day of suffering and pain and
agony. Saturday was the day of doubt and confusion and misery. But
Easter, that Sunday, was the day of hope and joy and victory. “You will
face these three days over and over and over in your lifetime. And when
you do, you’ll find yourself asking, as I did, three fundamental
questions. Number one, what do I do in my days of pain? Two, how do I
get through my days of doubt and confusion? Three, how do I get to the
days of joy and victory? The answer is Easter.”
