About nit Patna
National Institute of Technology Patna is the 18th National Institute of Technology created
by the Ministry of H.R.D. Government of India after rechristening the erstwhile Bihar
College of Engineering (BCE) Patna on 28. 01. 2004. BCE Patna presently NIT Patna marked
its humble beginning in 1886 with the establishment of pleaders survey training school and
degree courses in Engineering from 1924. The institute is situated on the south bank of
holy river Ganges behind Gandhi Ghat, one of the most important and reverential places of
Patna. The Gandhi Ghat is associated with the immersion of ashes of father of the Nation
Mahatma Gandhi in the river Ganges. The campus has a picturesque river view with
historic building presenting a spectacle of architectural delight and natural beauty.
National Institute of Technology Patna has been declared as an Institute of National
Importance and has been granted a fully Autonomous Status by MHRD, Government of
India. The Institute has also been declared as a Centre of Excellence to impart high level of
education, training, research and development in science, engineering technology and
humanities. It is imparting high quality education & values at UG (B.Tech), PG (M.Tech) &
Ph .D programmes through its experienced faculty well versed in their respective field of
engineering and technology with well-equipped laboratories. At present the Institute has
seven disciplines viz. Architecture, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engg., Electrical
Engg., Electronics & Communication Engg., Information Technology and Mechanical Engg.,
and well established departments of physics, Mathematics and Humanities and Social
Science.
National Institute of Technology Patna aims at setting out very high education standards
and holds long record of academic excellence. The pedagogical aspects have been
formulated to suit not only the needs of the contemporary industrial requirements but also
to develop human potential to its fullest extent in a range of professions. Extracurricular
activities are planned through games and sports, cultural programmes and NSS activities.

Training & Placement Cell
The Training & Placement (T&P) Cell centrally handles all aspects of campus placement for the UG and PG students
of NIT Patna. The T & P cell is well equipped with excellent infrastructure to support each and every stage of the
placement process. The T & P cell arranges Pre-Placement talk, written test, online placement process, group
discussion and interview etc as per the needs of the organizations. The section also arranges for summer practical
training for all prefinal year B. Tech. students. Training & Placement Cell has tied – up with British Council to
conduct communicative English course at NIT Patna for our own students.

NIT Patna is running PG, UG Courses and Ph.D. program in 6 Engineering disciplines and Architecture
along with individual departments for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities offering supporting

Sponsored Research(SR) and Industrial Consultancy(IC) are two important nodes through which the faculty
supports the development of knowledge and technology. National Institute of Technology Patna, recognizes the
synergy of education with R&D and is considered as the essential attributes of teaching and research.
NIT Patna administration encourages the teachers for getting involved in research & development and consultancy.
During the last couple of years various departments have undertaken consultancy and testing work for various
industries & Govt. Departments.
Faculty members and students of every department are involved in research activities extensively. Undergraduate
education is greatly benefitted by the environment of postgraduate programmes, while both curricula derives
strength from the research environment created by doctoral and postdoctoral programmes.
Not only are the departments of the institute, the various academic centres also involved in research activities, in
order to contribute and benefit from the advances in knowledge frontiers, which will help generate state-of-the-art
technologies responding to the need of country. Institute is having testing and consultancy over more than a Crore.

Computer Centre
The institute has a state-of-the-art Computer Centre having multiple computer labs and a virtual classroom fully
equipped with all modern computing and audio-visual facilities such as interactive boards, projectors etc . This
Computer Centre is the part of National Knowledge Network (NKN) which has provided us both the public and
private IPs and thus there is the facility of video-conferencing also. All the computers of the centre are of the latest
configurations, thus providing the students a chance to work in the industry like environment. The labs completely
rigged with CCTV cameras prove to be an ideal place for conducting online interviews, tests and for taking
presentations.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING/INTERNSHIP
The Placement & Training Cell has always arranged an on-site Vocational
Training(VT) for all second and third year B.Tech./B.Arch. students of NIT Patna in reputed
organisations/companies like ABB, SIEMENS, DRDO, BSNL, NTPC,
Prasar Bharti, SAIL, HEC, ECR, NHPC etc.

NIT Patna always encourages its students to perform extracurricular activities. From institute website to the annual
cultural fest, the institute delegates responsibility to its students wherever possible. With activities and

Patna is the capital of Bihar and it is well connected to other parts of the country by road,
