To be eligible for a rebate, I understand that: (a) I must be a residential customer on a
residential rate with an active meter serviced by SCE and, (b) the product(s) I have installed
must qualify as described on the Specification Sheet incorporated herein by this reference and
be designed to reduce my consumption of the energy distributed to me by SCE at the
installation address above. I understand I must complete an application for each installation
address. All uses herein of the words “install”, “installation”, or similar phrases shall mean
complete installation such that the subject products are fully functional.
I understand the rebate offer is limited to residential customers on a residential rate. The
energy-efficient product(s) must be installed in a residential dwelling within SCE’s service
area. The dwelling unit must be fully constructed and occupied.
I understand the program term is January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2005 or sooner if
allocated funds are depleted. New product ordered, purchased, and installations prior to
January 1, 2004 or after December 31, 2005 do not qualify for a rebate. Resale products,
products leased, rebuilt, rented, received from warranty insurance claims, exchanged, won as
a prize, or new parts installed in existing products do not qualify. Funds are limited.
Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The program may be
modified or terminated without prior notice. In the event that rebate amounts change
for products offered during the program period, the order/purchase date will be used to
determine product eligibility and the application postmark date will be used to determine
rebate amount.
I understand that this signed and dated Customer Application Form, completed Product Form
incorporated herein by this reference, a copy of all appropriate Proof(s) of Purchase, and
other required documentation as referenced in this Application Package must be sent to SCE’s
Rebate Processing Center postmarked by December 31, 2005 to be considered eligible for
payment of a rebate. A rebate check for qualifying product(s) is generally mailed 6 to 8
weeks after SCE receives and approves a completed application including all required
documentation unless an application is selected for a verification, which may add additional
time. An incomplete application cannot be processed.
I will allow, if requested, SCE’s and/or California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)
representative reasonable access to my home to verify the installed product I have purchased
before a rebate is paid. I understand that a rebate will not be paid if I refuse to
participate in any required verification. The verification of installation must be
scheduled within 30 days of customer contact by SCE. I understand that SCE may contact the
qualifying product vendor and/or installer, if needed, to verify purchase and/or installation
and may provide my name and/or address to complete this verification.
I have installed a qualifying product(s) and understand the energy-efficiency level of the
qualifying product(s) (as defined in the Specification Sheet) determines the rebate amount. The
rebate amount cannot exceed the purchase price. I understand that I cannot receive a rebate
for the same product or equipment from more than one California investor-owned utility or
third party energy efficiency program offering rebates, financing or other incentives funded
with CPUC Public Goods Charge funds.

7.
I agree that the selection of qualifying product(s), selection of manufacturer, dealer, supplier
and/or installer, and purchase, installation and ownership/maintenance of the qualifying
product(s) referenced in this Application Package are my sole responsibility, and that my
manufacturer, dealer, supplier or installer of these products and measures is not an agent or
representative of SCE. I understand that SCE makes no representations regarding
manufacturers, dealers, contractors, materials or workmanship. I ALSO UNDERSTAND
THAT SCE MAKES NO WARRANTY WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING
WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND
FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE, USE, OR APPLICATION OF THE
PRODUCTS OR MEASURES. I agree that SCE has no liability whatsoever concerning (1)
the quality, safety and/or installation of the products or measures, including their fitness for
any purpose, (2) the estimated energy savings of the products or measures, (3) the workmanship of any third parties, (4) the installation or use of the products or measures including, but
not limited to, effects on indoor pollutants, or (5) any other matter with respect to the 2005
Home Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. I waive any and all claims against SCE, its parent
companies directors, officers, employees, or agents, arising out of activities conducted by or
on behalf of SCE in connection with my application for any rebate(s) under the 2005 Home
Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, none of
such parties shall be liable hereunder for any type of damages, whether direct, or indirect,
incidental, consequential, exemplary, reliance, punitive or special damages, including damages for loss of use, regardless of the form of action, whether in contract, indemnity, warranty, strict liability or tort, including negligence of any kind.
8. I am responsible for meeting all program requirements and complying with my
state/county/city governments, property owner and/or homeowners association requirements
(if any) in my area regarding local conditions, restrictions, codes, ordinances, rules, and
regulations concerning this installation.
9. If a tenant, I am responsible for obtaining the property owner’s permission to install the
measure for which I am applying for a rebate. My signature on this application indicates I
have obtained this permission.
10. I understand that SCE is not responsible for items lost or destroyed in the
mail/transit.
11. For the higher rebate levels, identified herein as available on a “limited time” basis, customers
are eligible effective May 5, 2005. These higher rebate levels may be terminated at any time
without prior notice.
12. SCE has expanded its “Point-of-Sale” method of program delivery with this Summer Initiative
program. Customers will find that the rebates for qualifying pool pumps and motors, whole
house fans, refrigerators, room air conditioners, and programmable thermostats are provided
to them at the time of purchase by retailers who have elected to participate in the program.
Such purchases are not eligible for a second rebate through the SCE rebate processing center.
I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ABOVE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. I CERTIFY THAT THE INFORMATION I HAVE PROVIDED IS TRUE AND CORRECT
AND THE PRODUCT(S) AND/OR EQUIPMENT(S) FOR WHICH I AM REQUESTING A REBATE MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS IN THIS APPLICATION PACKAGE.

Sheet
All equipment/materials must be new. Follow manufacturer installation requirements. Equipment/Materials must meet or
exceed all applicable local, state and federal standards.
D. POOL PUMP AND MOTOR REPLACEMENT —
IN-GROUND POOLS ONLY
A. EFFICIENT ELECTRIC STORAGE WATER HEATER
Efficient electric storage water heaters must have an
Energy Factor (EF) of 0.93 or greater. Look for the
EF rating on the water heater specification
sheet or on the packaging box; it does not
always appear on the water heater label
itself. This rebate is limited to electric storage water
heaters that are 30 gallons or greater. Tankless water
heaters do not qualify. Replacing a gas water heater
with an electric unit does not qualify.
(Spas and Booster Pumps do not qualify)
Option 1:
High Efficiency Single-Speed Pool Pump and
Motor
Replace existing single-speed pump and motor with a
qualifying high efficiency single-speed pump and
motor. For single speed swimming pool pump and
motor systems greater than 1 hp, a minimum of 1/2 hp
reduction is required from the old pump and motor to
the new pump and motor. For pumps 1 hp or less, a
minimum of 1/4 hp reduction is required and pumps
equal to or less than 3/4 hp have no size reduction.
You must agree to the two time-of-use
requirements on the product form.
List of qualifying products is available at www.sce.com
or call SCE at 1-800-736-4777.
B. WHOLE HOUSE FAN
A whole house fan must move 1000 cubic feet of air
per minute (CFM) or more and be permanently installed
(connected to the framing) to be eligible for rebate.
Consult manufacturer’s specifications to determine the
proper size fan prior to purchase. Whole House Fans
are usually installed in your home by attaching the fan
to the ceiling joists in the hall. The fan exhausts air from
the living space into the attic, so it is important to make
sure there is adequate attic ventilation to allow the air
to easily escape. Existing central air conditioner
or heat pump required.
Note: Horsepower is equal to nameplate
horsepower times service factor.
Option 2:
Two-Speed Pool Pump and Motor
Replace existing single-speed pump and motor with a
two-speed pump and motor of equal size or lower
horsepower. In addition, an automatic control system,
capable of controlling both high and low speeds must
be installed. Manual systems are not eligible.
It is recommended that louvers between the living space
and the attic create a tight air seal. An insulated louver
cover should also be purchased for use in the winter.
List of qualifying single and two speed products is
available at www.sce.com or call SCE at
1-800-736-4777.
List of qualifying products is available at www.sce.com

Specification
Sheet
Check with your local jurisdiction to determine applicable codes or regulations. Use a C-20 licensed contractor for your installation. The
contractor's license number and company name must appear on the Home Improvement Contract (HIC) or contractor invoice that you
submit as your proof-of-purchase. Equipment/Materials must be new and shall meet or exceed all applicable local, state and federal
standards. Please confirm that the products and equipment you are purchasing are qualified by carefully reading
the specifications below.
Only Desert Area is eligible for $700 rebate
on Tier II qualifying central air conditioning
system. “Desert Area” is defined as Climate
Zone 15. Your zip code and/or your city
determine your eligibility.
A. ENERGY EFFICIENT CENTRAL AIR
CONDITIONER AND HEAT PUMP
Make sure to obtain the ARI Reference
number for the equipment installed by your
contractor and enter it where indicated on
the Rebate Form. Ask your contractor to put the
ARI reference number on his invoice. To qualify for a
rebate, all central air conditioners must be listed by
the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration
Institute (ARI). Prior to installation, all products must
be ENERGYSTAR® qualified. That is, the product(s) and
installation must comply fully with all ENERGYSTAR®
specifications, irrespective of ENERGYSTAR® product
labeling. Both the condenser and the evaporative coil
must be new and replaced at the time of installation.
Both the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio
(SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) must
meet the specifications for the appropriate tier level
(see the table on the right column). Tier II units must be
equipped with a Thermostatic Expansion Valve
(TXV). The TXV can either be installed at the factory
or in the field. There are two types of air
conditioners — split system and package unit. The
condenser and coil are separate in a split system air
conditioner, and for rebate purposes, are considered
one unit. The package unit has the condenser and
evaporative coil in one unit. If you have a central
natural gas furnace, there may be an opportunity to
increase the efficiency of your split system air
conditioner by replacing your furnace in conjunction
with the installation of your air conditioning system. If
you choose to replace a central natural gas furnace,
the full model number must be included on the rebate
form in order for your rebate request to be processed
correctly and for you to receive full payment. SEER
and EER can generally be found on the specification
sheet provided by the manufacturer. Condenser and
Coil Model Numbers must be on your
invoice.
Cities that are eligible are: Indian Wells, Palm
Springs, North Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Banning,
Blythe, Desert Center, Desert Hot Springs, Palo Verde,
Parker Dam, Rancho Mirage, Vidal, Havasu Lake,
White Water, Amboy, Cadiz, Cabazon, Cathedral City.
If you plan to purchase an energy efficient
central air conditioner or heat pump, make
sure your licensed contractor installs qualifying
products. Here’s how:
1. Choose from the list of qualifying products. A list
of qualifying products is available at
www.sce.com. Click on “Rebates & Savings, then
Residential”, then on the product you are installing.
OR
2. If you choose to purchase a qualifying product that
is not on the list, make sure your licensed contractor:
a. Provides you a manufacturer’s “cut sheet” or
specifications with the following information:
•
•
•
•
•
ARI Reference Number
Manufacturer Model Number(s)
EER
SEER
TXV Installed or Not
OR
b. Indicates the SEER and EER ratings on your
Home Improvement Contract and/or invoice as
well as indicating if a TXV was installed.
This documentation must be included with your
rebate application, so make sure to get it from
your licensed contractor before you sign a
Home Improvement Contract!
6
B.
b. a thermostat specifically designed for
evaporative coolers which automatically
controls the unit operation based on the indoor
temperature, controls fan speed, and pump
operation. The automatic thermostat must be
mounted remotely from the cooler. If new
pressure relief dampers are installed, they must
be indicated on your proof of purchase.
ENERGYSTAR® QUALIFIED PROGRAMMABLE
THERMOSTAT
ENERGYSTAR® thermostats must be installed with
qualifying central air conditioner or heat pump listed
on this application. ENERGYSTAR® qualified
thermostats available through other SCE incentive
offerings, instant discount or other SCE discount are
not eligible for rebate on this application.
A list of qualifying energy-efficient evaporative coolers
is available at www.sce.com or for other helpful
information call SCE at 1-800-736-4777.
List of qualifying products is available at
www.energy star.gov/products.
C. ENERGY EFFICIENT DUCTED EVAPORATIVE
COOLING SYSTEM
Rebates will not be paid for pre-existing
pressure relief damper(s).
SINGLE STAGE AND TWO STAGE
This rebate does not apply to portable or windowmounted evaporative coolers.
This replacement central cooler must:
1. be permanently installed, move at least 2,500
cubic feet of air per minute (CFM) at 0.1 static
pressure;
2. come from the manufacturer with cellular, rigid
media or equivalent media, certified by the
manufacturer to achieve an evaporative
effectiveness of:
a. .85 or better for the single stage ducted
evaporative cooling system,
OR
b. .95 or better overall system efficiency for the
two stage ducted evaporative cooling system.
3. have at least two (2) fan speeds and operate with
the media wet or dry;
4. have UL recognized electrical components;
5. come with a water quality management system that
provides positive removal of sump water on a
regular interval (a bleed system is not allowed);
6. have a single duct or multi ducted distribution
system.
7. have either:
a. a multi-function manual control switch which
offers high and low fan speed, pump on or off
and the unit control of on or off. When a multifunction manual control switch is used, pressure
relief dampers are not required.

A Home Improvement Contract (HIC) must be used if the
materials and labor total for the product(s) and installation is
$500 or more per the CSLB requirements. It is recommended
that you request a HIC from your contractor even if the
contractor installation was less than $500. Your HIC must be
signed and dated by both your licensed contractor and
yourself. For more information about Home Improvement
Contracts go to: www.cslb.ca.gov/contractors/hicontracts.html.
If submitting a HIC as Proof of Purchase for the 2005 Home
Energy Efficiency Rebate Program, the date you signed the HIC
and the date the product is purchased and installed must be
between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2005. If both the
signatures are not dated, the date that the HIC was written will
be the default date for determining eligibility for rebate.
Read the Specification Sheet included with each Product Form
to make sure you meet all requirements.
