OUR MISSION: A Message to Prospective Counselors

A Message to Prospective Counselors
OUR MISSION:
• Teach campers how to build strong, positive relationships with others.
• Teach campers activity skills and safety while helping them to develop important life skills and positive
knowledge of self.
• Teach campers the value of unselfishness and the necessity of developing a good character.
OUR POLICIES:
Everything a counselor says or does, on or off camp grounds, reflects back onto ADVENTURE Camp. We simply ask
that counselors conduct themselves in a way that reflects their faith and represents ADVENTURE Camp in a positive
way. The use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco is prohibited while under contract. Because the influence of a counselor
is so tremendous, as part of our hiring process we look at every applicant’s social networking sites. When we are
looking at your site, we are looking from the perspective of a camper and a parent and we expect to see you
reflected in a positive light. Please review your site to make sure there is nothing alluding to drinking, drugs, sex,
profanity, racial slurs, etc. This includes and is not limited to photos, videos, bumper stickers, groups, wall posts, etc.
In addition, photos/videos of you and/or other people engaging in anything listed above must NOT be on your site.
At ADVENTURE Camp, each counselor is given free time during each day, and weekends off.
WE WANT YOU TO KNOW:
As administrators of ADVENTURE Camp, please let us share some of our thoughts on camp counseling with you. We
would ask that you give this job application serious thought before returning it to us. Camp counseling is a full-time
job that is fun to those who love children and will place their interests ahead of self in every instance. Some college
enter summer camp work with the idea that it will be an eight-week vacation. While camp is fun, applicants should
consider this job as being a chance to serve youth as well as an opportunity for personal development. Parents send
their children to camp because they know the positive influence a good camp experience can have on their child.
They entrust their child to ADVENTURE Camp because they know we seek passionate young people to care for their
children. Youth are so impressionable. An ADVENTURE Camp camper is under the influence of the camp and its staff
9-10 hours a day, amidst surroundings and under conditions which make them particularly susceptible to character
influences. The camp environment and all its staff members must be positive, inclusive, nurturing, and wholesome.
We seek those who want to fill this role and make a difference in a child’s life. When you join the ADVENTURE Camp
family as a staff member, you will be among those who share the same goal of ministering to young people. Come
with a willing spirit and be prepared to have a rewarding and fun summer full of growth for your campers and for
you!
