CIOFF Conseil International des Organisations de Festivals de Folklore et d’Arts Traditionnels ONG en relations formelles de consultation avec l’UNESCO How to become a CIOFF member Guidelines and procedure CIOFF has the following types of membership: ▪ Full members, so called National Sections (NS), not more than one NS for each country. ▪ Associate members: Folklore organizations or folk art festivals in countries where no NS exist. ▪ Corresponding members: International cultural or scientific Organizations or persons with which CIOFF is interested in having established relations.. More info → CIOFF By-Laws, Article 8-12, on request at the address [email protected] GUIDELINES In countries where CIOFF has not yet established a National Section (a full member), it is recommended that a folklore organization or festival apply for associate membership. With the support of CIOFF, associate members are expected to develop open contacts with other folklore organizations, festivals and groups in order to become more and more representative of the traditional culture of their country and, doing so, to fulfill the conditions to apply for full membership. PROCEDURE CIOFF is organized in six geographical Sectors: Asia+Oceania, North America, Latin America, North Europe, Central Europe and South Europe+Africa. Each CIOFF Sector, through its Sector Representative, is in charge of establishing contacts with countries where CIOFF is not yet represented and, if so, to give all support not only to folklore organizations and festivals to become Associate members but also to international cultural or scientific organizations or persons with which CIOFF is interested in having established relations to become Corresponding members. This request shall be accompanied by the application form and the relevant documents. Applications are handed over by Sector Representatives to the Secretary General. All applications are submitted to the Legal Commission. The Legal Commission presents the applications to the Council for approval. Applications approved by the Council are presented to the General Assembly for decision.
