CURE CMD DAY ON THE HILL – HOW TO SCHEDULE A VISIT Thank you for your interest in participating in Cure CMD’s Day on the Hill on July 16, 2013! Here’s how to schedule a visit with your House Member and Senators: 1. First, if you are uncertain who your House or Senate members are, visit www.house.gov and www.senate.gov and enter your zip code in the box provided. 2. You can either email the Scheduler in your House/Senate members or make an appointment by calling the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3121 to be connected to your members of Congress. 3. Whether you speak directly with the Scheduler or leave a voice mail or email, identify yourself as a constituent who will be in Washington, DC on July 16 who is requesting a meeting with the Representative or Senator. 4. Mention that you are making a special trip to Washington and would very much like to meet with the Representative or Senator. (If the Scheduler says that the Member of Congress is unavailable to meet with you that day, then ask to meet with the Legislative Assistant who covers appropriations or health issues for the office.) 5. In all probability, the Scheduler will ask that you put your request in writing in an email it to him or her. Follow-up if you don’t hear back from them within 3-to-5 days. In scheduling your visits, keep the following in mind: 1. Given the distance between the House and Senate Office Buildings, if possible, you should make all appointments with your House Member in the morning and your Senators in the afternoon—or vice versa. 2. Allow a minimum of 40 minutes in between meetings if you are going from the House to the Senate or vice versa. 3. For families from the same state seeking to make an appointment with the same Congressional Member, it is possible that the Scheduling Assistant will combine the requests into a single meeting.
