GRAPHIC DESIGN

GRAPHIC DESIGN (50.0402) – Students will learn how to apply their artistic
talents to today’s market, beyond pencil and pen, to the computer and the Internet.
Students will work with the latest graphics software and technology to create
brochures, posters, magazine covers and layouts, business cards, signs, logos,
print ads, websites, CD covers, Internet banners, flash animation, and more. The
course covers the principles of graphic design, graphic software, typography,
basic illustration, use of color, page layout, advertising, digital photography, and
portfolio development. Students will learn to use the same programs professional
designers use every day, such as the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator,
and InDesign), QuarkXPress, Flash, and Dreamweaver.
In addition, Graphic Design students will learn basic business and marketing skills.
Graphics students will collaborate with the Marketing students on various projects
throughout the year to develop a basic understanding of the relationship between
Marketing and Graphic Design professionals. Upon graduation, students will be
prepared to enter the workforce in any entry-level position. This program is also
an excellent opportunity for students planning to pursue post secondary education
in graphics, or a design related field. Students in this program are eligible to join
SKILLS USA and DECA.
