Graphic Production Assistant, permanent part-time position.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator, produces marketing and communication
materials.
TYPICAL DUTIES











Uses graphic skills to design and produce communications and marketing material for Library
News, corporate reports, advertisements, invitation, brochures, communication templates,
posters, flyers, pamphlets, and banners, as well as in-house exhibition panels and signage.
Develops marketing and communication materials using electronic media, e.g. email
promotions, banner ads, electronic brochures and digital imagery.
Using digital media, carries out digital production techniques and processes for creating graphics
and still images. (image manipulation, file preparation, page layout, prepress design).
Works collaboratively to design and prepare individual graphics and photos for display on the
website.
Works collaboratively to design and prepare web pages and web templates.
Produces web page code (HTML, CSS and JS).
Liaises with printing firms, obtains quotes as needed, follows up on files and ensures problems
are resolved effectively.
Prepares files for transmission and carries out preflight production work as needed.
Responsible for maintaining electronic, graphic and digital files and marketing material.
Keeps up to date with current trends in layout and design and makes recommendations to
Manager, Marketing & Communications, regarding software and related tools.
Other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS







Diploma from a two year post secondary program in the field of graphic design with more than
two years current work experience in the field of graphic design, or one year post secondary
diploma in graphic design with at least four years current work experience in graphic design.
Considerable knowledge of graphic design, layout skills, prepress production work flow,
photographic and file format procedures including scanning resolutions for various media.
Considerable knowledge of print publication and marketing production.
Knowledge of and ability to keep up with current trends and activities as they pertain to graphic
design.
Demonstrates a high degree of skill in using the following software applications: InDesign,
Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Microsoft Word in a Macintosh environment.
Demonstrated skill in structural editing and proof reading.
Demonstrated skill in web design and development and web programming using HTML, CSS and
JS.









Ability to lift and carry up to 13.6 kg (30 pounds).
Demonstrated ability to design and produce communication and marketing materials, using a
range of graphics media, methods, techniques and equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of supervision, pay attention to detail, strong
organization skills in managing time effectively, planning daily work and meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers,
volunteers and the public.
Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement and to solve routine problems.
Demonstrated reliability (punctuality and attendance).
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and willingness to try new ideas.
Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language.
Thrives in a collaborative, creative and deadline oriented environment.
HOURS OF WORK
36.25 hours over a 2 week period.
SALARY RANGE
$42,706.08 - $50,992.32 per annum, pro-rated.
