How To Guide for Alums
What can I do with My
AmeriCorps?
• My AmeriCorps is a hub for potential
AmeriCorps members, current members
and AmeriCorps Alums.
• Individuals can use My AmeriCorps to
create a member profile, search for
AmeriCorps opportunities, and manage
their education award.
Step 1
In order to create a My AmeriCorps profile,
please go to my.americorps.gov
Registration
In order to register for a Member/Alum
Account, members will need to provide
their Last Name, Date of Birth, Social
Security Number and a valid email
address. All of this information will have to
match the information provided to
CVN/AEAP.
Important Note
• The Portal is supported directly by
AmeriCorps, not by CVN/AEAP, and staff
members are not able to troubleshoot
technical issues with the site.
• If you receive an error message when you
try to register, you must call the help desk
number provided on the error screen.
Log On
Once members have registered,
they will receive an email
confirmation. When they click on
the confirmation link, they will be
prompted to create a username
and password. Once they have
created a username and
password, they will be able to log
on to MyAmeriCorps!
Using My AmeriCorps
• When you log on to your My AmeriCorps
Account, you will be able to see your term
of service dates, the program you served
with and the amount of the education
award you received.
• You will also be able to edit your contact
information if necessary.
Education Award
• Please remember that the education award is not a
check or a voucher that is sent directly to you, or
automatically to your school/lending institution.
• The education award will become available through the
portal once the member’s exit has been processed by
both CVN/AEAP and CNCS.
• In order to use your education award, you will need to
access the ‘My Education Award’ link on the left hand
side of your My AmeriCorps portal page.
• You can use this link to make payments with your
education award and to process an interest accrual
payment for your loans that were in forbearance during
your term.
Search for Institutions
• On the institution page, you can either
select one of the auto-fill options, or type
in the relevant information for your lender.
Most lenders will already be in the system.
• Make sure that you have your loan
information readily available, just in case
your lender is not already in the system. A
bill statement or interest update should
have all of the information you need.
Taxes
• The education award and interest accrual
payments are taxed during the year they
are used. However, The National Service
Trust will only send out a tax form if the
member spends a certain amount of the
award.
• Members can access the 1099 Misc. form
for tax purposes through the My
AmeriCorps portal.
How do I verify my AmeriCorps
Service?
• Some educational programs and/or
employers will require a document
verifying that you have completed an
AmeriCorps term.
• Former AmeriCorps members can access
a service letter through the MyAmeriCorps
portal that will verify their term of service.
