Schneider Electric - IT Business- SmartWare Tiger Team Leader 30 Single-UPS Configuration In a Single Single-UPS UPS configuration configuration, each h computer t server or group off servers is i protected by a single UPS. That is, each server has one PCNS agent communicating with a single NMC installed on a UPS. Supported UPS devices: The entire Smart-UPS range of UPS devices, including Smart-UPS VT and MGE Galaxy 3500 1- and 3-phase, Galaxy 7000, Galaxy 300; the Symmetra 1-Phase and 3-Phase, the Symmetra PX, and the Sil Silcon DP3500E and d Silcon. Sil Schneider Electric - IT Business- SmartWare Tiger Team Leader 31 Single-UPS Configuration Schneider Electric - IT Business- SmartWare Tiger Team Leader 32 Redundant Configuration In a Redundant-UPS Configuration, PowerChute Network Shutdown recognizes a group of either two or three UPS’s as a single UPS. In this configuration, one PowerChute Network Shutdown Agent on a server communicates with two or three NMCs (depending on the number of UPS’s in the configuration). Typically, the servers have multiple (dual or triple) power cords. Each UPS has its own NMC, which has a unique IP address. In addition all the NMCs use the same HTTP port and the same administrator addition, user name, password, and authentication phrase. Each UPS has the capacity to supply power to the load on its own. The first UPS provides id allll the h power ffor the h lload, d the h additional ddi i l UPS( UPS(s)) act as reserve. When the first UPS in unable to supply power, the server switches over to take power from the next UPS. As a result, if one of the UPS’s goes down, for whatever reason, the other UPS(s) can continue to supply power to the load and therefore provide redundancy between UPS’s. PowerChute Network Shutdown recognizes that the UPS’s are set-up in a Redundant-UPS configuration and listens to all the UPS NMCs for a shutdown command. Each UPS does not need to be capable of supporting the load on its own as the combined output of all UPS’s in the configuration share the load. However, depending on the size of the load there may be b reserve UPS( UPS(s)) available. il bl R Redundancy d d iis provided id d if th there iis att lleastt one more UPS than is required to support the load.
