CELEBRITY LOOK
Denise Bidot – sharp, cool and
our new best dressed
I
was recently asked what I liked most about my
job. Without a moment’s hesitation, I said it
was the fact I got to work in the most exciting
industry with top personalities; to see international
photographers and stylists in action and also to be
the first to read the styling tips from Elisa D'ospina,
fashion editor of Italian Vogue Curvy and Style
Council member. And to be able to say by the end of
the day: I am a part of it.
Another top name is our cover star Candice Huffine.
The Vogue model is the star of our exclusive, fabulous
holiday story in this issue. Whether you are planning
your summer vacation or a weekend away, we have the
perfect holiday pieces for you.
we love
I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed
putting it together. Here’s to a happy, stylish summer!

of Morocco, to exquisite embroidery from the
East, and ocean-inspired Mediterranean blues
that make us want to just dive in.

KIYONNA
‘I travel a lot so I’ve learned that a versatile
wardrobe is a must. A few key pieces for me
include a pair of tailored shorts in a dark block
colour – look for a style that hits the knee.
A beach to bar dress is another must-have.
Something in this season’s pretty prints, that
can be dressed up or down – wear it with
flip-flops on the beach, then simply swap
your accessories – some metallic sandals and
statement jewellery – for when you hit the bar. OPEN END

‘Choose swimwear that
accentuates the areas of your

areas you want to hide. This

choice for me.’

EFFORTLESS GLAMOUR
White and silver is a magical
combination. Team your
trousers with a sparkling, loose
fit top, slip on some statement
wedges, put on some gloss and
you’re good to go.
WEEKEND CHIC
For city strolls and days
out, team with a loose cut
statement sweatshirt. A pair
of gladiator sandals and a cute
straw boater adds a nautical
chic flair to the look.

This piece from the 2013 collection is
working just as well for us this season
as it did last. For weekends away,
we’ll be teaming these cool drawstring trousers by Tuzzi Nero with
a long line top in crisp white, plus a
cute, tailored jacket in this season’s
fruity hues takes the outfit up a
notch in an instant. Complete the
look with a pair of minimalist sandals.

JJ FOOTWEAR
We couldn’t help noticing that fashionistas are
getting increasingly creative with
their shirt tails. Tucked in at
the front, out at the back, or
in at the back and out at the
front – or how about adding
a Marilyn Monroe front-tie
in for good measure? A
fabulous way to accentuate
a small waist.

Dresses look divine on your figure, especially
styles that cinch in at the waist and flare out
at the hip. What lies beneath those clothes
is important so invest in good underwear.

D
id you always want to
become a model?
I’ve loved being in front of
the camera since I was a child and
dreamed of becoming a model.
Then when I was 14, my mother
took me to New York to see some
agencies and the rest, as they say, is
history.
What was your first big break in
the industry?
Starring in V magazine’s Curves
Ahead editorial in 2010 got people
looking at me in a different way.
Soon after, I did a shoot for Italian
Vogue and they put me on the
cover. This was the catalyst, I think.
Since then, I’ve also been in
American Vogue and great things
keep happening. I consider myself
very lucky.
Of all the dresses you’ve modelled
today, which is your favourite?
I love the navy navabi collection
blue curve hugging pencil skirted
dress with an off the shoulder
décolleté detail and gorgeous gold
zipper up the back. It is chic but
truly makes you feel and exude
sexiness.
How would you describe your
personal style?
I love to try all styles and trends
but my default look is kind of rock
chick chic. I try to add an edgy twist
to any outfit, which has become
something of a signature.
Do you have any wardrobe staples?
Skinny jeans, great blazers and lots
of shoes.
Dream holiday destination?
That desert island we talked about
before sounds pretty good.
Your favourite styling tip?
Don’t take fashion too seriously.
Love your clothes and enjoy them.
Try new things and rock it.
What are you loving this season?
I’m looking forward to wearing a lot
of prints and bright, easy pieces. I’m
in love with this season’s dresses.
We’re spoiled for choice at navabi
this season.
Five things you would carry to a
desert island?
My husband, my camera, great
music, moisturiser (with SPF), and
a genie who will grant me five more
wishes when those run out. Packing
light is not my forte…
Which five words would your
friends use to describe you?
Sassy, passionate, fun, creative and
kind.

YOEK SS14 COLLECTION
If you haven’t discovered Yoek yet, you’re in for a
treat. The Dutch label, beloved of many A-listers, has
a gift for seamlessly marrying classic design with
contemporary innovation.
The brainchild of former model
Johanna Timmer, who launched
the label 25 years ago, and Chantal
Smits, Yoek is all about celebrating
the female form. ‘Yoek makes
clothes for women who are unafraid
of their bodies, unafraid of fashion,
who do not want their style choices to be limited by their size,’ says
Timmer. ‘It’s all about clothes that are feminine, fun, flattering and
which elegantly incorporate the latest trends,’ she says. ‘Clothes
should always make you feel vivacious and desirable.’
Delicate chiffon dress
Floral pencil skirt
Maxi jersey dress
Elegant chiffon trousers
Imaginative and edgy, ethereal and sometimes whimsical, this season’s
collection reflects the label’s attention to detail and passion for
creating flawless fashion for plus size women. Look out for simple
classics with a twist – we love the wide leg chiffon trousers, which
merge this season’s sheer trend with classic chic. Also, dazzling floral
prints and bold, uplifting colours.

CHIC IN THE HEAT
‘My personal style is fresh, fun and classic. I love mixing
on trend pieces with basics … Many girls reach out to me
to ask how to change how they feel about themselves
and that alone is pretty priceless. It started off as a job,
but it’s become so much more.’
