How to Borrow From Other Libraries A. INTERLIBRARY LOAN: This is a free service for all Bishop’s and Champlain students and faculty who wish to borrow books or obtain journal articles that are not located at Bishop’s University Library. 1. Verify first that our library does not own the item already. (If you are sure, go to #2 below). Books: Using the Library Catalogue (BORIS) (click on Complete Library Catalogue), type in the exact title, or author’s name (last name first). Example of an author browse search: Browse in Complete Library Catalogue Kurzw eil, Ray Browse for in All w ords Submit Search Journal Articles: On the library’s home page, search the title of the journal in which the article is found under E-Journals. If the library subscribes to this journal electronically, the name(s) of the database(s) in which it is found will be listed there along with the holdings (example: 1999-2007). Verify that the year of publication of your journal article is found within these holdings. If your journal title cannot be found here, or the holdings do not cover the publication year of your article, search the catalogue to see if the library subscribes to the journal in print. Search the journal title (not the article title) by Browse Searching in the Complete Library Catalogue. If it appears, note the location, call number and holdings. If it does not appear in the catalogue, or the holdings do not correspond to the publication year of your article, proceed to #2 below. 2. Go to the library’s home page and click on Interlibrary Loans (COLOMBO). You will then see this screen: INTERLIBRARY LOANS: COLOMBO If you are already registered, click User ID = the barcode number from your Bishop's ID card the logo to sign in Password = choose a password Forgot your password = please re-register using the same barcode number Authentication Service = select "Bishop's" FIRST TIME USERS MUST REGISTER If you are already registered, go to #3 below. Choose a password you will remember. Submit the form and wait several minutes. 3. Go to Interlibrary Loans (COLOMBO) on the library’s home page and click on “Access Colombo” as in the screen shot above. Input your ID barcode number and password with “Authentication Service” as “Bishop’s” and submit. Keep trying if at first you cannot access (the system may take a little time to register you). If you have forgotten your password, re-register using a new password (see #2 above). 4. Use the Advanced Search which will give you more options than Standard Search.
