How to apply for G mark Usage
For one month the award recipients can use the G Mark logo for the awarded item free of charge (For the Good Design
Awards 2012, October 1 - October 31). For the use of G Mark beyond this period, the award recipients are requested to
apply for the use of G Mark. Each awarded entry requires an individual application.
APPLICATION PROCESS
1.
The award recipients / company must submit an "Application to Use G Mark" to JDP through the “Entry site”.
2. The JDP will check the content of the application and send an invoice to the applicant.
3. The applicant pays the specified G Mark usage fee by bank transfer or credit card.
4. After the JDP has confirmed the payment and sends the "G Mark Usage Permission Certificate", the award
recipient is allowed to use G Mark.

required information, and submit your application by e-mail, post or fax.

Usage Fee
*Please note "G Mark Sticker" is also available.
In accordance to the retail price (current market price in the case of open pricing) as stated in the screening
information the Usage Fee will be calculated. The awarded items average value will be determined, if there is a range
in the retail price. When the awarded item is a non-commodity (e.g. architecture), the Usage Fee will be calculated in
accordance with the total project costs as stated in the screening information.
REDUCTION OF THE USAGE FEES
In order to promote the use of G Mark, the promotional discounts shall be as follows:

If the winner is a public institution or association, including, but not limited to, government
organization, local government, educational corporation, Medical Corporation, religious
corporation, incorporated foundation, incorporated association, and incorporated non-profit
organization, the G Mark Usage Fee shall be waived.
If the winner is an individual or a small to medium-sized enterprise, the G Mark Usage Fee shall be
reduced by 50%. Provided, however, that the definition of a small to medium-sized enterprise shall
be subject to the definition set forth in the "Small and Medium Enterprise Basic Law".

For the application for initial 4
years just after the winning award
in one-time payment, the G Mark
usage fee shall be reduced by 25%.

The G Mark Usage Fee for an
awarded item from the fifth year
onward after its award shall be
reduced by 50%.
Furthermore, the G Mark Usage Fee shall be waived for an awarded item from the tenth year
onward after its award, for an item winning the Long Life Design Award and Frontier Design
Award.
Definition of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises
Following the definition set forth in the "Small and Medium Enterprise Basic Law".
The definition applies mutatis mutandis to the "Using G Mark". Furthermore, the following definition also applies
mutatis mutandis to any case where the winner is a foreign corporation. Provided, however, that fee reduction
measures shall not apply to "Small and medium-sized enterprises under the substantial control of large
companies", including the subsidiaries of large companies.
When the award winner is a manufacturer, etc.:
A company with total capital or contribution investment of up to 300 million yen, or a company or an individual
enterprise with up to 300 full-time employees.
When the award winner is a wholesaler:
A company with total capital or contribution investment of up to 100 million yen, or a company or an individual
enterprise with up to 100 full-time employees.
When the award winner is a retailer:
A company with total capital or contribution investment of up to 50 million yen, or a company or an individual
enterprise with up to 50 full-time employees.
When the award winner is a service provider (Applies to design offices, etc.):
A company with total capital or contribution investment of up to 50 million yen, or a company or an individual
enterprise with up to 100 full-time employees.
PROMOTION ITEMS
Sale of commendation certificates and trophies
The JDP offers G Mark Stickers, duplicate Good Design Award commendation certificates and Special Award trophies
for use in sales promotions or as company in-house commendations.
*The application process for permission to use the G Mark outlined above is not necessary when using these items.

RIGHTS OF USAGE
◆ Only recipients of the Good Design Award are eligible to apply for the usage of G Mark.
◆ Sales companies affiliated with award recipients, advertising agencies, and other third parties may only apply to
use the G Mark as the representatives of the award recipients and with their consent. The "Certificate of
Permission to Use the G Mark" will be issued directly to the award recipients in such cases as well.
◆ When a third party uses the G Mark for an award-winning product for which a "Certificate of Permission to Use
the G Mark" has already been issued, no further procedures are necessary.
◆ Please consult the JDP separately in cases where a distribution or sales agent other than an award-recipient
company (or its representative as described above) wishes to use the G Mark to promote sales of an awarded
product.
◆ Please consult the JDP separately in cases where a media organization other than an award-recipient company (or
its representative as described above) wishes to use the G Mark in a description of an awarded product.
UNAOUTHORIZED USE OF G MARK
The organizer may revoke or suspend the use of G Mark if the award recipient or related party use G Mark for
non-awarded items without the approval of the organizer, or use it in a way that is misleadingly for the public.
REPORT ON THE STATUS OF USE
The Organizer may request the award recipient and related party using G Mark to report on the status of its use.
SPECIFICATIONS CHANGES OF THE AWARDED ITEM
In the event of any change in the specifications of the awarded item, including performance improvements, the award
recipient must send an "Alternation Report" to the JDP. The Organizer will inform the award recipient of
approval/disapproval of the usage of the G Mark after considering the contents of the change.
