CALL FOR PAPERS AND PANELS HOW TO SUBMIT PROPOSALS Main Theme The Call for Papers and Panels is open to all undergraduate and graduate students of colleges and universities from all over the world. Any Global Issues of the 21st Century and the Role of College Youth undergraduate or graduate student may propose papers or panels(3 papers for a panel) by completing and submitting a Paper and Panel Proposal Form Key Themes on-line at the WCYF 2009 official website: www.wcyf2009.org. All proposals must be written in English in MS Word and submitted • Peace - Korean Peninsula and Peace-Building in Northeast Asia electronically. The length of a proposal must not exceed 4 double-spaced - Ethnic and Religious Conflicts pages (less than 1,000 words), excluding references. - Role of Youth in Global Peace - Sports and World Peace CRITERIA FOR REVIEW OF PROPOSALS • Environment - Climate Change and Global Warming - Resource Depletion and Sustainable Consumption - Environmental Protection and the Role of Youth - Food Safety in a Globalized World • Development - Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) The WCYF welcomes academic, practical, and case-study-based proposals from college youth in global communities. All proposals will be subject to review by a WCYF committee, sorted according to the six proposed themes based on their views, opinions, or perspectives on the role of college youth. The WCYF committee reserves the right to refuse proposals or alter panel proposals. DEADLINE FOR PROPOSAL SUBMISSIONS: March 20, 2009 - Youth Unemployment Paper and panel proposals must be received by March 20, 2009. The WCYF - Fair Trade and Economic Development will confirm acceptance of submissions by March 25, 2009 at the latest. - Poverty and Foreign Aid (ODA) The acceptance process will proceed on a first-come-first-served basis. • Human Rights By submitting a proposal, an author also agrees, if requested, to serve as a - Minority Groups and Social Justice discussant or moderator at the Forum. The WCYF committee encourages - Protection of Child Rights authors whose proposals are accepted to honor this commitment. The WCYF is held as part of, concurrently with, the World Civic Forum jointly initiated by Kyung Hee University and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA). The biennial WCYF will be launched at the Global Campus of Kyung Hee University, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea on May 5-8, 2009. • World Civic Youth Forum as a Global Forum Date May 5(Tue.) ~ 8(Fri.), 2009 The Forum seeks to provide participating college youth from all over Venue the world with a platform of discourse in which to share their Global Campus of Kyung Hee University Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea. knowledge and ideas about global issues, such as world peace, global warming, poverty, economic development, human rights, gender equality, and cultural diversity. The Forum also offers a helping solve them. Key Themes The Forum aims to cultivate a continuous network of collaboration education and action. Such a network will be built and designed to function in close cooperation with the World Civic Forum, which will be promoted by global cooperative mechanism of discourse and practice. • World Civic Youth Forum for Global Practice The Forum seeks to serve as a momentum for participants to search for and define the role of young people in addressing global issues World Civic Youth Forum 2009 The mission of the WCYF is to give college youth a voice by bringing them together through meaningful dialogue and action on global issues. It will also provide them, both as young individuals and members of the global community, with valuable opportunities for growth and exploration.
