~ HOW TO GET THERE The park is accessible via tarmac road from Nairobi. From Naivasha town, take the lower (old) Nairobi - Naivasha road in the direction of Nairobi until you reach the Longonot railway level crossing. Turn right after the crossing and follow the track for 4km to the Park Gate and KWS offices. Vehicles may be left in a car park 1km after the gate. Open: Daily 6.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m. including public holidays. Entry is allowed on foot, or in vehicles up to the parking bay, starting point for hiking. Also there is a game road circuit to the lava flow 2 km road (for) small vehicles. ACTIVITY OPTIONS Activities within Mount Longonot National Park include hiking, rock climbing, biking and observing birds and wildlife. Also there are two way possible inside the crater, Paul and Daniel's way on foot with a nice boot and another one for rock climbing for experts Gabriel peach, which is being established ,. ." WHERE TO STAY Mount Longonot National Park was formed around Mount Longonot, a young dormant volcano. It was created during the volcanic eruptions that formed the Great Rih Valley. Longonot has two camping sites which offer accommodation for camps within the park. However the fabulous range of nearby hotels, lodges, luxury ranch and home staying around Lake Naivasha provide ample accommodation for all budgets. The park offers two campsites with complete ablution block toilets with showers for both ladies and men. Also available is the equipment from Mt. LongonotTour Guide - porters such as tents, blankets, mattresses, sleeping bags, lamps, cooking equipment for hire. Coming up is village which will be ready soon less than a month to provide more accommodation on in the park. WHEN TO GO? The name Longonot is derived from the Masai word Oloonong'ot meaning mountains of many spurs or steep ridges. Longonot park covers 52 km most of it being occupied Mt Longonot. The sides of the mountain have beautiful V-shaped valleys and ridges. The stony soils have little vegetation but the crater has an impenetrable forest. WHAT TO SEE Offering unrivalled views of the distance Aberdare Ranges, Lake Naivasha, Hell's Gate N. Park and fisher'tower of Hell's Gate and the mau escarpment, Mai mahiu, Mt. Suswa, Mt. Magret, Ngong hills, Kijabe and flyover naivasha Nairobi new road. Walkers are welcomed to hiking nature trail to the rim and round the Mt. Longonot. Also cycling is permitted along the circuit road towards the volcanic lava flow. Inside the crater can go down and camp inside while there is a newly opened nature trail for young ones and aged ones which also offers all the said scenic sites above. Also one to carry picnic items and camping equipment if you intend to stay overnight. Reminded such equipment are available from tour guides for hire.
