How to Book an Appointment at the
Lady Sobell Gastrointestinal Unit, Wexham Park Hospital
It has been recommended that you have your oesophagus, stomach or bowel examined.
This leaflet gives information on how to book your appointment. Allowing you to make your
own appointment means that you receive a time which is convenient for you.
The booklet enclosed tells you about the examination. Please read this booklet before
booking your appointment. Also enclosed is a patient questionnaire which you should
complete and bring with you to your appointment.
We aim to segregate men and women in the clinical area, but occasionally emergency
cases of the opposite sex may have to be accommodated.
Booking your appointment
Please book your appointment within 7 days of receipt of this letter.
Either
1. Telephone 01753 634157/4704/3061/4262 between 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday –
Friday and write the details in the box below.
or
2. Take this form to the Booking Clerk in the Lady Sobell Gastrointestinal Unit (next to
Ward 4) Wexham Park, Hospital and arrange the appointment directly.

Important notes
•
If you are diabetic or on warfarin, Pradaxa (dabigatran) or clopidogrel, please inform
the clerk when making your appointment.

If you wish to be sedated for the procedure, please inform the clerk when making your
appointment but you MUST have someone to take you home from the GI Unit and stay
with you for the rest of the day.
•
The appointment time you will be given is the time at which you should arrive at the
unit, not the time at which your procedure will begin. You can expect to be in the unit for
2 hours or more.
•
If you are having a colonoscopy or a flexible sigmoidoscopy, bowel preparation and
instructions on how to take it will be sent out separately after you have booked your
appointment. Please contact the unit on 01753 634982 if this does not arrive 7 days
before the date of your appointment.

It is not possible to specify which endoscopist will do your procedure on the day, but the
individual will be fully trained and competent.

If you are subsequently unable to attend the appointment or have the procedure carried
out elsewhere, please ring the unit on 01753 634982, giving as much notice as
possible. We will try to make another appointment to suit you. If you have no further
need for the appointment please cancel it so that we can offer it to others on the
waiting list.
Finding the Unit
From the main entrance, go past reception and outpatients until you reach the pharmacy.
Turn right and follow the overhead signs for the Pink Zone, then Ward 4. At the small kink
in the corridor, turn right towards Ward 4 and then immediately right again for the Lady
Sobell Gastrointestinal Unit. Please enter the double doors and report to reception.
Parking
Wexham Park Hospital operates a barrier controlled pay on foot system. You will be here
for a minimum of 2 hours. Parking charges are:
