BA Supportlink – December 2012 - Dynamic Layout Selection using Active Reports - Cheran Ramasamy
This technique outlines how to quickly setup a report to display different layouts based on user input.
This requirement, which previously required numerous HTML items and javascript, can easily be
achieved with the Active Report template.
This sample report is created using IBM COGNOS 10.1.1.
1. Open Report Studio, Select Package -> Go Sales and Retailers and click ‘Active Report’
2. Drag and Drop the ‘Button Bar’ from the Toolbox.

3. Edit the’ Buttons Definition’ and customize the labels as shown below.
4. Go to ‘Toolbox’. Drag the ‘Deck‘ tool below the ‘Button Bar’ as shown

5. Edit the Deck Cards Definition as shown below.
6. Place List, Crosstab, Chart in the respective layouts as shown in the figure below.

7. When you click the Combo box in the ‘Deck’, you must see an image like below , this ensures you have
place the right layout in the right place.

8. Click the ‘Interactive Behaviour’ icon of the ‘Button Bar’ and then click ‘Create a New Connection’ in
the bottom of the window.
9a. Click the ‘Connect’ button in the subsequent window. As we haven’t created an active report variable
before, a variable is automatically created as you see in the below snapshot.

9b.After creating the new connection the ‘Interactive Behavior’ window will look like the one below, click
‘OK’ to complete the setup

10. Run the report and now you can select the respective tabs to view the respective layouts. Like any
other active report, this can be downloaded as .mht and users can work on their iPad or any other
mobile devices offline.
