How to apply industrial applications
in conjunction with the dictionary
content of IEC 61360-4 DB
Blank detail specification

Reasons for setting up the project
How to guide a user when writing product/item
descriptions?
No guiding document known neither in ISO/IEC
for such item nor elsewhere
Setting up of manual or computer-interpretable
product descriptions involves enormous amount
of time and money
Required by industry
What is required?
Writing (manual or computer-interpretable)
product/item descriptions requires information
about
Knowledge about methods available and applicable
within this area
Product/item class-independent items
Product/item class-dependent items
Process-related items
Business-case dependent items
Life-cycle dependent items
Predefined data element types
…
What to do? - Step 1-1
Define a predefined structure independent of a
product/item class with the intention to provide
an industrial user with the information what a
product/item related description should contain
Define what kind of information to be provided
within the specified structure
Known structural input available from EN
45510 and IEC 61987
Step 1-2
Provide generic methods and principles to apply
existing data element types of the IEC 61360-DB
Reference Component Dictionary (IEC-RCD)
without redefinition covering
life-cycle requirements;
process-depending generation of values;
tracing of values assigned to DET‘s over life
cycle;
Include resulting DETs in the IEC RCD
Step 1-3
Assign existing predefined data element types
(DETs) to the structural clauses which are
independent of a product class
Make missing DETs available in the IEC-RCD
Reference such DETs in the related structural
elements
Step 2
Provide generic mechanism, e.g. XML template,
for product/item description serving the industrial
user to apply the generic structure as the
underlying basis for the design of a specific
product/item class description
Applicable by industrial user, consortia or
product committee within IEC or ISO
Technical committees may provide Standardized
Blank detail Specifications
Step 3
The generic specification template for
product/item description can be applied as
underlying basis for the design of a specific
product/item class description;
e.g . produced by industrial user or consortia
Technical committees may provide Standardized
Blank detail Specifications for specific product
classes
Step 4
Such (standardized) Blank detail specification of
a specific product/item class (BDS) can be used
between industrial partners in business
transactions along life-cycle
Recommended to make standardized BDS
available for download at IEC TC3 web page for
industrial use
