Changing Admin user password in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM

Changing Admin user password in
SolidWorks Enterprise PDM
The ‘admin’ account in SolidWorks Enterprise PDM has some special properties and permissions
associated with it that can’t be assigned or delegated to other users. This is also the case when it
comes to changing the password. There are 2 primary types of ‘standard’ user logins for EPDM –
Windows Logins, or PDM Logins.
When selecting Windows Logins, user passwords are not managed from the EPDM Administration
tool, they are managed strictly through Active Directory. When user logins are set to PDM logins,
users or administrators have the ability to right-click on a user in the Administration Tool and
Change Password. Neither of these methods apply to the Admin user in EPDM.
The Admin account password can only be changed using the Archive Server Configuration Tool
installed exclusively on the Archive Server itself.
Procedure
Step 1: Launch the Archive Server Configuration Tool on one of your Archive Servers
Step 2: Expand ‘This Computer’ and click ‘Archives’ in the left hand screen folder view
Step 3: Right-Click on your Vault name and select Properties, Login Tab. Note whether the Admin
User is set to Use Default Admin User or not. If NO, skip to Step 4b below.

Step 4a: If the Admin User was set to Use Default Admin User in the previous step, select Tools >
Default Settings from the Archive Configuration Tool. Click Password…, and update with new
password. NOTE: This change may also affect other vaults hosted on this Archive Server.

Step 4b: If the Admin User was NOT set to Use Default Admin User for your vault that means the
Admin password is vault-specific. While still in the Vault Properties window, click Password…, and
update with new password.
