club is never sure where to sit and often ends
up sitting at an empty table. What can you do

their time often raises interest and participation from other club members. This can
be done during a club meeting or (and) as
part of our club newletter.
Idea 3: Not all Rotarians ‘sign up’ to serve
on committees. We may want to create
a new committee called RSVP...Rotary
Service Volunteer Pool...and place all
members, who have not volunteered
to serve on a committee, on the RSVP
committee. That is the first committee
chairs will turn to, when they need volunteers for a particular service project.
We might be surprised how eager and
willing RSVP committee members are,
because, perhaps for the first time, they
have been personally asked to pitch in
and help.
Idea 1: If the club is comprised of older
members who are very active in club projects. Have them explain the new project and
its benefits to the newer members plus talk
about past projects that we have done and
the benefits to our club and the community.
Once we start a project, we try to make it as
fun as possible. We take breaks and eat and
we have members that entertain us. Everyone
has a good time and before you know it the
project is over and everyone is in the mood
to start another project. After the project is
over, we have the newer members report
about the project and what they felt about Idea 4: First, ASK them what turns them on
it , the good and the bad. This feedback helps and then find the task that fulfulls it. Secus with setting up the next project.

the benefit created when they participate
and are envolved. It is also important to understand that not all members are equally interested in all service activities. Therefore, it is
necessary to have an on going list of projects
in which members can participate. The more

different members participate. Finally, pubDon’t we look cute?

Interact Xmas Project
The Interact Clubs of SCA and SJC will
be having a Christmas Event at the
Mina Grant Preschool in Majestic Alley this Thursday.
The Interactors have had to get special
permission to leave school during the
day in order to facilitate the schedule
of the kids.
Santa will be there to give away giftsto the kids and a snack will be served.
Rotaract will also be arranging for
Dora the Explorer to make a special
appearance for the kids.
The Interactors have plans to adopt
the school and to return in January to
paint the fence and clean the yard. All
of this is made possible through the
support of your Rotary Club.

Shelterbox Emergency Appeal
ShelterBox has issued an urgent appeal for funds to help
provide aid to tens of thousands of displaced people in
four countries following a succession of humanitarian
crises. Response teams from ShelterBox reacted quickly
to distribute emergency aid to victims of the 29 October
earthquake in Pakistan. And worsening humanitarian situations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Honduras, and Swaziland have stretched operations to the limit,

ShelterBox representatives say. “This is a life-or-death
situation. Families who have lost their homes are in
desperate need of shelter and warmth,” says Sally Grint,
ShelterBox communications and fundraising manager.
“Donations are urgently needed to fund further deliveries of aid.” In southwestern Pakistan, a ShelterBox response team provided 1,000 containers to families left
homeless after a powerful earthquake rocked impoverished regions there. Each container provides a tent, a
stove, a water purification kit, blankets, tools, and other
necessities to help a family of 10 survive for six months.
Mark Pearson, response team leader on the ground in
Pakistan, says winterized tents are desperately needed
to shelter an estimated 15,000 displaced villagers trying to withstand frigid nighttime temperatures. Pearson
praises the logistical support provided by local Rotary
clubs.“The clubs in Quetta and Karachi are invaluable in
the operations here, providing flights, security, accommodations, interpreters, and local knowledge,” he says.
In Congo, an estimated quarter-million people are seeking refuge from fierce fighting between rebels and government forces. ShelterBox has provided 200 containers and has committed to deliver 200 more. A response
team also distributed 200 containers to residents of San
Pedro Sula, Honduras, after heavy rains and flooding
forced 22,000 people from their homes on 22 October.
And a ShelterBox team in Swaziland is distributing aid
to children orphaned by AIDS in an ongoing program
with the National Emergency
Response Council on HIV/AIDS. Your Leaders
