How To Industrial Automation & Networking Prepared by: Megha Agrawal Product: RAM 6x21 & IPM 245-D Date: May 2013 Subject: Setup Modbus I/O transfer in RAM Abstract: This document provides a step by step procedure for configuring Modbus I/O transfer between RAM and Sixnet RTU (Modbus Device). Use Case / Problem Solved: Here we are using Sixnet RTU (IPM 245-D) as Modbus device and we will configure Modbus I/O transfer from IPM to RAM. We will configure 2 different I/O transfers: Write to IPM output Read from IPM input Procedure: Log into the SN/RAM Web Browser o Type the device’s LAN/WAN IP, port 10000 into a web browser o User Name: admin o Password: Last six digits of the device’s serial number Go to Services → Automation → Modbus → Local Station. Here we setup station name, Station Number Port Number for RAM. Station Name: Local Station Number: 1 Modbus Local Port: 502 (Standard TCP Port number for Modbus is 502) Click Save. Go to Services → Automation → Modbus → Remote Station Here we will add a remote station for Internal I/O transfer Click Add Enter details of the Remote station. Here we will enter details of the Modbus device (IPM) Station Name: IPM Station Number: 2 Remote IP Address: 192.168.1.2 Remote IP Port: 502 Remote station will appear in the table. Click Save. Go to I/O Transfers on the bottom of the page. Or you can go to Services → Automation → Modbus → I/O Transfer Modbus I/O transfer page will appear. Here we will add the Modbus I/O transfers Click Add A new window will appear. We are adding I/O transfer to Write to IPM Output Station Name: IPM Protocol: Modbus Send Mode: Wait for Reply Port: TCP/IP Command Type: WRITE Local Type: Discrete Output Local Relative Address: 1 Remote Type: Discrete Output Remote Address: 1 Number of Registers: 4 I/O transfer will appear in the table. Now we will add a new I/O transfer to READ from IPM input Click Add Click Save. Modbus I/O transfer setup is complete for RAM. Click Apply Testing Modbus I/O Transfer: In IPM Go to Test I/O In RAM Go to Services → Automation → I/O Settings → Test I/O. Click on Test I/O Test I/O Page will appear In the drop down menu (Select Type) Select Discrete Output. Start Address: 0 and Register Count: 8 Click Add to Test I/O Again in drop down menu. Select Discrete Input Start Address: 0 and Register Count: 8 Click Add to Test I/O Now the working of Modbus I/O transfer can be tested. Turn ON DO0 – DO 3 in RAM and DO0 to DO3 will automatically turn ON in IPM. Turn ON DI0 – DI3 in IPM and DI0 – DI3 will automatically turn ON in RAM Hence Modbus I/O transfer is successfully working between RAM and IPM.
