LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environm ental and nature conservation projects
throughout the EU.
With the objective of favoring the WFD im plem entation, the LIFE+ Environm ent SEMEAU Project
(2009-2013) aim s at developing participative land m anagement strategies at the w atershed scale,
involving particularly forest m anagem ent, w ith the objective of favoring both local econom ic
developm ent and surface and groundw ater protection. In that fram e, the SEMEAU project is
developing specific num erical m anagem ent tools.
The SEMEAU conference is an international m eeting devoted to the m ain following them es, and at
presenting the m ain outputs of the LIFE+ SEMEAU project:
hydrological and hydrogeological relationships betw een forest and surface and groundw ater
(quantity, quality) and biodiversity, interaction-retroactions linked to the global change (clim ate
change, w ood dem and, abandonm ent of farm land, cities grow th, etc.);
technical tools (num erical m odels, DST) for im proving the know ledge about and m anaging the
relationships between forest and w ater resources, from the plot to the w atershed and the WFD
w ater body scale;
best practices aim ing at a joint valorization of forest stands, at the m anagem ent and protection
of surface and groundwater, at the biodiversity preservation, and at reaching the WFD objectives.
Evaluation of the global benefit of such joint approaches - Technical and socio-econom ic
approaches;
local to European (WFD), and other countries, scale strategies, policies, am enities and
ecological services, contractualization and juridical tools aim ing at favoring local developm ent
(forestry, agriculture, tourism, etc.) and the preservation / return to the ecological good status of
w ater resources, particularly in forested and rural European areas subm itted to abandonm ent of
farm land – Organizational and socio-econom ic approaches.
The conference w ill com prise oral presentations (both open and w ith conference invitees), poster
sessions and round tables.
The conference is aim ing at gathering together:
- professionals and stakeholders involved in w ater, forest and environm ent m anagem ent and
protection (rivers and aquifers m anagem ent, forestry, natural parks and reserves, WFD
im plem entation, etc.),
- scientists, engineers, consultants, elected representatives, local, state, national, European and
International authorities, etc.,
- from France, Europe and other countries.

LIFE+ est l’outil européen de financement qui soutient les projets de préservation de la nature et de
l’environnem ent en Europe. Dans la perspective de la m ise en œuvre de la Directive Cadre sur
l’Eau, le projet LIFE+ Environnem ent SEMEAU (2009-2013) vise à m ettre au point des stratégies de
gestion du territoire, à l’échelle du bassin-versant, prenant tout particulièrement en compte la forêt,
avec l’objectif de favoriser aussi bien le développem ent économ ique local que la protection des
eaux de surface et souterraines. Le projet SEMEAU est dédié au développement de m éthodologies
et d’outils num ériques répondant à cette am bition.
La Conférence Internationale SEMEAU abordera les principaux thèmes suivants et présentera les
résultats du projet SEMEAU :
rôle hydrologique et hydrogéologique de la forêt vis-à-vis des eaux de surface et souterraines
(quantité, qualité) et de la biodiversité, interaction-rétroactions liées au changem ent global
(changem ent clim atique, dem ande en bois, déprise agricole, croissance urbaine, etc.) ;
approches techniques (modèles numériques) destinées à am éliorer la connaissance et gérer les
relations entre forêt et ressources en eau, de l’échelle de la parcelle à celle du bassin versant et à
celle de la m asse d’eau, au sens de la DCE ;
bonnes pratiques destinées conjointement à valoriser les espaces boisés, à gérer et protéger
les eaux de surface et souterraines, à préserver la biodiversité et à atteindre les objectifs de la
DCE. Evaluation du bénéfice global de telles approches conjointes, techniques et socioéconom iques ;
stratégies, politiques, am énités, services écologiques rendus, contractualisation et outils
juridiques, en France, en Europe et dans le m onde, destinés à favoriser le développem ent local
(exploitation forestière, agriculture, tourism e…) et la préservation et/ou le retour au bon état
écologique des ressources en eau, particulièrem ent dans les régions forestières et rurales
soum ises à la déprise agricole - Approches organisationnelles et socio-économ iques.
La conférence s’articulera autour de com m unications orales (ouvertes et avec conférenciers
invités), de sessions posters et de tables rondes ouvertes aux congressistes.
La conférence a pour objectif de rassem bler :
- des professionnels et acteurs de la gestion et de la protection de l’eau, de la forêt et de
l’environnement (gestionnaires des eaux de surface et souterraines, des forêts, parcs naturels,
chargés de la m ise en oeuvre de la DCE, etc.) ;
- chercheurs, ingénieurs, élus, agents des administrations territoriales, nationales, européennes et
internationales ;
- de France, d’Europe et des autres pays du m onde.
