Further delays feared over Tesco development
Councillors Timothy Huxtable and Rob Sealey
have called for an urgent meeting with Tesco
after it was revealed that the indicative opening
date for the superstore in Stirchley is now 2017.
Speaking about the news, Councillor Tim Huxtable
said, “It’s shocking that after after requesting
(and having been given) vacant posession of
the former Stirchley Community Centre and City
of Birmingham Indoor Bowls Centre we are now
faced with another three years of delay before
Stirchley will see the much needed regeneration”.
City Council fails to act over travellers
Councillors Tim Huxtable and Rob
Sealey are again calling on the Labour
run City Council to take action to
prevent travellers from invading open
space in Stirchley. So far this year,
there have been three illegal incursions
onto the Dads Lane Recreation Ground
by travellers – twice by River Brook
Drive and once to the rear of Ashbrook
Road. Councillors Timothy Huxtable
and Rob Sealey have repeated calls to
the Council for new metal trip railing (as
have been installed elsewhere in the
locality) and other measures to prevent illegal incursions onto Dads Lane Recreation Ground and the
costs of cleaning up after the travellers have been evicted.
Your local Conservative Councillors have pointed out to the City Council (since 2012), that the funding
for new metal trip railing and other measures to prevent illegal incursions onto Dads Lane Recreation
Ground via both River Brook Drive and Dads Lane could come from the monies paid to the City Council
for use of Dads Lane Recreation Ground as a compound during the Dogpool Lane bridge replacement.
Conservatives renew calls to scrap Garden Tax
Councillors Timothy Huxtable and Rob Sealey have
renewed calls on the City Council to scrap the charges
for both green/garden waste collection (£35) and
bulk waste collections £25 recently introduced by the
Labour City Council.
The loss of both free (at point of use) green and bulk
waste collections, previously paid out of council tax,
has had an adverse impact on the local environment.
The charge has resulted in a big increase in flytipping
and illegal dumping of waste in the area and has
caused massive problem both from a road safety
and congestion viewpoint around Lifford lane tip
(Household Recycling Centre) for all residents wishing
to recycle green/garden and bulk waste.
