How to Calculate DAILY HANDICAP

How to Calculate DAILY HANDICAP
Some members are getting confused between GA Handicap and DAILY Handicap and thus playing
off the wrong handicap – what does it matter, some say – well if you play off a handicap BELOW
your Daily Handicap then the round is legal BUT your handicap will be lower. If you play off a
handicap that is HIGHER you will be DQ (R&A Rules of Golf)
What is the difference between my GA (Golf Australia) Handicap and my Daily Handicap?
The GA Handicap is an assessment of a player’s relative golfing ability when playing a course with a
neutral Slope Rating. The GA Handicap is NOT designed for use in competition play, rather it is
to be one of the determining factors used in the calculation of the Daily Handicap.
(The GA Handicap is always shown as a number, truncated to one decimal place).
The Daily Handicap is the number of strokes a player receives for play at the particular course being
played. The Daily Handicap is calculated by taking the players GA Handicap, multiplied by Slope
Rating of the course/tees being played and then divided by the neutral Slope Ratings (113).
(The Daily Handicap is always shown as a whole number).
NOTE: As the Club (everybody) uses Golflink to calculate new handicaps our Club handicap sheet
will always shown both GA and DAILY handicaps – it is up to the individual to ensure they use the
DAILY Handicap.
Why are Club Handicaps Sheets Not Available Until Late Friday?
Being part of Golflink has its advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage is that the Handicaps
has to wait in-case anyone plays on a /Thursday/Friday, i.e. someone may also be a member of
another Club like Lakelands, Wanneroo or Joondalup and may play between Wednesday and
Saturday and of course their handicaps may change according to how they played.
Can I Check MY Handicap (Unofficially) Before Club Publishes?
Yes you can, keeping in mind that the Golflink website – game number 1 – should show the date for
your last game, if it doesn’t then you will NEED to check the Club website (Late Friday) or the
Course Notice Board on the day you tee off.
Never Used Golflink Before – What Do I Do?
The instructions – with examples – show how easy Golflink is to navigate and by being registered on
the site you MAY win a brand new Lexus Car (no charge)
How Do I Get MY Golflink Number?
When you have been accepted as a Club Member the Secretary will issue you with a Golflink
Number. This will always be your Golflink number whilst you are a financial (registered) member of
a golf club within Australia.
What Are the SLOPE Ratings?
The most important one is for our home course Carramar and it is 115 for Men and 112 for Ladies. If
you are playing in WAGL events you can calculate your handicap for that course using slope ratings
shown below:
