Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development State Training Admissions How to Submit an Online Application Form To make the process of lodging an application easier and quicker, please have the following information available before applying online: 1. List of courses and locations you wish to study - Main intake applications can have up to four preferences - Mid year intake applications can have up to two preferences 2. Current WA Year 12 students only – Curriculum council number 3. List of work history (including WPL/SWL/INSTEP and course placements) including- The names of the organisations for which you have worked - The dates that you began and finished working with each organisation - The average number of hours you worked per week - The number of weeks per year that you worked GETTING STARTED 1. Go to http://tasonline.tafe.wa.edu.au Note: When using this site click on the ‘Continue’ or the ‘Next’ buttons, hitting enter to move forward will refresh the current screen and will not move through to the next screen. 2. Read through the notes on the front page, tick the check box to indicate you have read and understood the terms listed and click on the ‘Continue’ button. Note for Current Year 12 students: if you enter your Curriculum Council number and receive the following message, please remove you Curriculum Council number, leave that field blank and click on Continue. 4. Create a secret question and answer, and then click on the ‘Continue’ button. Note: It is important that you choose something that you will remember, you will need to enter the secret answer whenever you log back into your application. Your answer is case sensitive. If you forget your secret answer, please contact State Training Admissions on 9229 5400 to have it reset. If you need further information on any section, please click on the button that appears at the top of each page. Enter your personal details and contact information. If you have entered your Curriculum Council number, check that the pre-populated details are correct. If not, edit the details to show your current contact information. Citizenship and Residency 2. If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, leave this field as ‘No’. This includes applicants who were born in Australia or are permanent residents or citizens. If you are a temporary resident you will need to change this to ‘Yes’. Special needs This section allows you to provide the details of any special needs/assistance you may require to complete your studies (e.g. wheelchair access, large print). 3. Select ‘No’ if you do not have any special requirements 4. Select ‘Yes’ if you do have special requirements, then enter in the textbox below the type of assistance you require. 5. Once you have entered the required information on the Personal Details page click on the ‘Next’ button. Page 3 of 16 Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development State Training Admissions PREFERENCE SCREEN The preferences screen allows you to add the courses you would like to study at a State Training Provider next semester. • Main intake applications can have up to four preferences • Mid year intake applications can have up to two preferences Adding a Preference 1. Click on the ‘Add Preference’ button which will bring up a search box. 2. Use either a key word or the course code in the search facility to find the course you would like to study (e.g. use “Auto” to find “Automotive”). Click on the ‘Go’ button. 3. Select your course by clicking in the circle next to the qualification that you would like to study. The locations will populate on the right hand side. Click in the circle next to the location where you would like to study the qualification. This will add the preference to your preference list. 5. Continue adding preferences using the same steps. Changing the Order/Deleting Preferences 6. Click on the blue arrows next to the course codes to move the preference up or down. 7. To delete a preference, click on the red cross to the right of the qualification. Change order Delete 8. Once you have finished adding all preferences and they are in the correct order click on the ‘Next’ button. Page 5 of 16 Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development State Training Admissions ACADEMIC DETAILS On this screen you can enter details relating to your previous and current studies. Only select one of the options for Secondary Studies Current Secondary Studies “I am currently studying” Enter information in this section if you are current high school student. 1. Click in the tick box “I am currently studying”. Year 12 Students 2. If you are a current year 12 student and entered a Curriculum council number, these details should pre-populate for you. If not, select Year 12 and then your school from the drop down list. Year 10/11 Students 3. Select your current year of study by clicking in the circle next to your year level and then your school from the drop down list. Page 6 of 16 Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development State Training Admissions Completed Secondary Studies “I have completed” Enter information in this section if you are not currently a high school student and have previously completed either year 10, 11 or 12. 4. Tick the “I have completed” box. Select the highest year of secondary studies that you completed by clicking in the circle next to the year level. State Training Provider (formerly TAFE colleges) Studies The next two questions refer to studies at a State Training Provider (formerly TAFE colleges). If you have never studied at a State Training Provider leave these sections blank. School students may be studying at a State Training Provider through VET in Schools. This should be entered in this section. 5. Tick the appropriate box(s). Select the campus from the drop down list and click the ‘Add’ button. 6. Repeat if studies were done at more than one campus. Other Studies This section refers to studies you may have undertaken at an institution other than a State Training Provider (formerly TAFE colleges) or secondary school. If you have never studied at another institution leave these sections blank. This section incorporates students who are studying at other registered training organisations for VET in Schools. 7. Tick the appropriate box(s). Page 7 of 16 Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development State Training Admissions Tests The last question on this page relates to any tests that you may have undertaken or are enrolled to sit. It includes such tests as STAT, IELTS, ISLPR, CELT, and 10T. 8. Select the test you have sat or are enrolled to sit from the dropdown list. 9. Enter in test dates using the day, month and year dropdown lists. 10. Click on the ‘Add’ button. 11. Click on the ‘Next’ button WORK EXPERIENCE The fourth screen looks at Work Experience. In this screen you are able to enter details in two different sections. 1. The first section “Employment/Voluntary” incorporates paid, unpaid and voluntary employment. Work experience does not have to be related to the qualification(s) that you wish to study. It is important to fill out all requested information, if you are not certain, you can estimate these figures. Click on ‘Add’ after each entry. The second table “Course-Based Work Placement” incorporates any work experience that you may have undertaken whilst at secondary school or studying a qualification at a State Training Provider or a private RTO. It is important to fill out all requested information, click on ‘Add’ after each entry. 3. Applicants must select one of the following tick boxes before they can move to the next screen. Once all the work experience details have been entered click on the ‘Next’ button. 4. If you have entered all work experience (does not have to be related to the qualification(s) applied for) then tick the box next to the statement “I have provided details for all the work experience I wish to be included as part of this application.” 5. If you have never done any type of paid, unpaid, voluntary or course based work experience then tick the box next to the statement “I have never undertaken paid or unpaid employment, voluntary work or work experience”. 6. Click on ‘View Summary’ (a new window will open). 2. Check through the details contained in the summary carefully before closing the window. If you need to change any details, close the summary window and use the ‘Previous’ button to go to the required page. If you have indicated that you are a current secondary student then it is recommended that your application be reviewed by your school’s career counsellor. However, if you do not want your application to be reviewed then tick the box next to the statement “I do not wish for my school’s career counsellor to review my application.” 4. Once you have reviewed your application summary and confirmed that all information entered is correct, click on ‘Submit’. Page 11 of 16 Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development State Training Admissions CONFIRMATION PAGE Once you click on the submit button the confirmation page will open to show that your application has been successfully submitted. The confirmation page will show of one the following: 1. An online instant offer or 2. An application summary 1. ONLINE INSTANT OFFER You may receive an Online Instant Offer if your first preference only requires you to meet Entrance Requirements (not required to address Selection Criteria) and State Training Admissions has evidence that you meet the Entrance Requirements. If you receive an instant offer, it will be displayed as shown below: • • • You are not required to send any supporting documentation to State Training Admissions if you receive an instant offer. To send a copy of the offer letter to your email address type your email address into the text box and clicking the ‘Send Email’ button. State Training Admissions will post your offer letter to you. IMPORTANT: Please read all the information on the screen carefully as it contains important enrolment details. Your place will only be secured once you have enrolled by the correct date and time stated. If you do not enrol by the correct time, then your offer is considered to have lapsed and you will no longer hold a place in that course. APPLICATION SUMMARY The summary lists the details you have entered in your online application. State Training Admissions will conduct a preliminary assessment of your application to determine if any supporting documents are required. Within 5 working days of submitting your application you will receive an Acknowledgement Letter, if any supporting documents are required it will be listed on this letter. If State Training Admissions does not require any documents then it will be stated in the letter. What do you need to do now? q Wait for your Acknowledgement Letter to arrive in the mail q If any documents have been requested in the letter- photocopy all requested documents, print a copy of the application summary and attach it to the front of the documents that you are submitting or clearly write your application reference number and full name on the documents, submit documents by the due date shown. q If you do not receive your Acknowledgement Letter within 5 working days, contact State Training Admissions on 9229 5400. IMPORTANT: Do not send originals, clear photocopies are sufficient. Click on ‘Continue’ button next to “I have already applied to study in …” 3. Enter in your personal details and click on ‘Continue’. 4. Enter the answer to your secret question and click on ‘Continue’. Click on this link to view your application summary, the summary lists the details you have entered in your online application and your application reference number. Edit Contact Details 1. Click on this link to edit your contact details including your address, telephone numbers and email address. 2. To do this simply update any contact details that have changed and click on the ‘Save’ button Edit Preferences 1. Click on this link to edit your preferences a. To add a new preference- Click on the ‘Add Preference’ button - Use the search field to find the qualification you wish to add as a preference. You can search by a qualification name or number or by key words (e.g. use “Auto” to find “Automotive”. - Select the qualification - Select your preferred location - Follow these steps to add additional preferences b. To change the order of existing preferences, click on the blue arrows located in the ‘Preference’ column and click ‘Save’ Page 15 of 16 Government of Western Australia Department of Training and Workforce Development State Training Admissions c. To delete a preference, click on the red cross next to the preference in the ‘Delete?’ column and click ‘Save’ You can add, change the order and delete preferences provided that they fall into the cut off dates and rules for change of preferences. Note: If you have already received an offer you will not be able to change your preferences online. Should this happen to you and you want to change your preferences, you must call the telephone number on your offer letter and formally cancel your offer before you will be able to change your preference. View Offers This link will show if you have been issued an offer, it will only activate once you have been issued an offer. You can refer to the Key Dates section for the dates that offers are issued. Page 16 of 16
