How to search CAB Direct July 2010 1. Go to the Jotello F Soga Library’s website (http://www.library.up.ac.za/vet) 2. Click on “Veterinary Databases” or “Library in your office” Scroll down and select “CAB Direct” Enter your student/ personnel number ( e.g.12345678) g ) If you have a PIN type it here. If not click li k on SUBMIT and d choose a new PIN on the next page 1. Start by typing your search term in the displayed window – remember about Boolean search operators The CAB Direct platform 2. Click on the “Search” icon The number of records found with your search term Numbers of records displayed can be changed. Click on the drop down arrow and select the number to be displayed Enter another search term and click on “Search” The number of records using the second keyword Click on “Search History” to start combining the different searches All the keyword searches will display . Mark the searches by y ticking g the block to use them again Combine the searches by using ‘and” . Click on the “Search” icon. 1. The number of results retrieved 2. Click on “Export marked citations” 1.Decide on the fields to export to your personall database. d t b 2. Click on “Export to Refworks” Click on “View last imported folder” to see the references exported to Refworks. The results retrieved from the search can be refined to narrow down the number of records. To enable you to save search results and also to create e-mail alerts you have to register for a free account on CAB Direct Complete the form and click on “Register” In future you will be able to access your search results as well as alerts simply by typing in your chosen Username and Password.
