Yesterday morning I had the great pleasure of
speaking with Brooke and Monti on Movin' 92.5's
"The Ladies Room" morning show. Host Brooke
Fox is getting ready for a vacation to sunny
Jamaica, and this week she ordered several
bathing suits for herself from Victoria's Secret. Of
course, when the box of suits arrived at her
doorstep, the last thing she wanted to do was try
them on.
Sound familiar? I know most of you dread
swimsuit shopping with a passion. The bad
lighting, the pasty skin, the horror! Brooke was
feeling defeated before she even open the box,
and she needed some advice. Here's what I
shared with her to help her find the perfect suit
(with minimal pain!):

Victoria's Secret tankini with
MiracleBra technology
For larger bust
Look for: In general, you want styles with more bust support, such as underwire
and soft cups (just like you would want in a bra). Halter tops are my favorite,
because they offer mega support plus sassy cleavage. Look for halter bikinis that
offer a thicker fabric band under the bust and can be tied in back so you can
adjust the fit to hold your girls in place.
Avoid: strapless bandeau styles and those teeny tiny tops that look like two
triangles with dental floss! Also, big patterns will draw attention, so you may want
to opt for subtle patterns or solid colors. Be prepared to spend a little more on a
bathing suit to get the construction support you need (the $10 Target bathing suits
probably won't cut it!).
My favorite brand: Athleta (a Gap brand) has a great selection of suits in C-DD
sizes.
For smaller bust
Look for: ruffles! Ruffled bikini tops are very stylish right now, but they are only
flattering on small busted women. Take advantage! You can also wear triangle
tops and strapless styles. Most of the less-expensive trendy suits are made for
smaller busts.
My favorite brand: Target! for cheap suits. Also Victoria's Secret Swim offers
dozens of one and two piece suits with MiracleBra technology.
For pear-shaped figure
Look for: Bikini bottoms with fuller coverage, skip the string bikinis, especially
side-tie versions that only draw unwanted attention. To balance your proportions,
choose a solid bottom and a patterned top. If you're self conscious about your
"junk in the trunk" opt for a mini-skirted bottoms (but nothing with ruffles or frills).
Avoid: skimpy bottoms or lots of ruffles and details at the hips.

For plus sizes
Look for: One-piece swimsuits with a deep V neckline. Lengthen your thigh with
swimsuits that have a higher cut leg or adjustable ruching detail at the hip.
Avoid: Too much fabric and boy short styles. Stay away from white, as well as
bright fabrics and bold patterns.
My favorite brand: Miraclesuit (available at Nordstrom). They claim you will look
10lbs lighter in ten seconds.
For everyone
Don't expect your swimsuit size will be the same as your dress or pant size (and
don't be alarmed if your swimsuit is a bigger size! That's how they run!) Always try
your suits on! I know, it's brutal and the lighting in the fitting rooms is always bad
(take it home, if you'd rather not do it in the store). If you order online, make sure
you're familiar with the return policy.
