UG NX Tips
1. How to rename part file of component ?
This method is applied only for a small number of parts.To do so,please follow below
steps:
Step1: Rename part file under directory.
Step2: Open assembly in NX.Message pop up warning that the part can not been
find.OK to ignore it.
Step3: On ANT,right click row corresponding to the renamed part and go to
Substitute… on poped up menu.
Step4: Click Maintain Mating in next dialog.
Step5: Make the renamed part selected as below.
Step6: Input new component name if needed.
Step7: OK the dialog and all completed.
2. The Usage of Layout *.rws file; Save and Reset
Basic steps for saving and restoring toolbar layouts:
1. Copy the 'custom_dirs.dat' file from ugii_base_dir\UGII\menus to a local folder.
2. Add modification to end of this file, eg:

3. Out on your OS, create a folder named 'application' under the path name you just added to
custom_dirs.dat, eg:
U:\penderj\ugv19\rws_files\application
4. In the ugii_env.dat file, edit the UGII_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE to read your local copy
of the custom_dirs.dat file.
eg:

Unigraphics will search for menu files, toolbar files, UDO libraries, # or dialog files. The data

UGII_UG_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE is # the file containing the Unigraphics Solution
products. Unigraphics # will search the directores in UGII_UG_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE
first, and # then the directories in UGII_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE.

5. Inside UG, save the desired toolbar arrangement for Modeling, Drafting, Assemblies, etc.
(Tools-> Customize-> Layout-> Save Layout). Place the .rws file inside the 'application' folder
you created.
Now the system will automatically load these toolbar arrangements when you restart UG and
enter a UG application.
6. To restore the layout for the particular application you are in, choose 'Reset Layout' from the
Tools-> Customize-> Layout dialog.
NX Nastran Tips
3. How Can I Run My Job Most Efficiently?
Use the following MSC/NASTRAN parameters to tune your job:
1. Increase BUFFSIZE if your model is large. Do this using
NASTRAN BUFFSIZE=n $
This is machine dependent; for more information, see the NX/NASTRAN
Configuration and Operations Guide.
2. Reduce the number of spill groups or passes by increasing the available
memory by using the "mem" keyword (or REGION for IBM computers) on the
NX NASTRAN submittal procedure.
3. If there is no spill or passes, increase smem by using the "smem" keyword
on the MSC/NASTRAN submittal procedure or use
INIT SCRATCH(MEM=n)
where n is in NX NASTRAN blocks.
