How to Administer the Florida Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Assessment Provider Training This professional development training is appropriate for VPK directors, administrators, and teachers who will administer the Florida VPK Assessment. Participants will learn the purpose of the VPK Assessment as well as how to administer, record, and score each of the assessment measures through hands on activities and engaging video clips. The skill areas and methods used for assessment align to the standards and benchmarks. The standards indicate what a child should know and be able to do at the end of their VPK year. The measures are also aligned with the Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener which is comprised of the Early Childhood Observation System (ECHOS) and components of the Florida Assessment for Instruction in Reading (FAIR). The Broad Screen/Progress Monitoring measure of FAIR assessment in Kindergarten includes letter naming and phonemic awareness. The VPK Assessment will help teachers use the information collected from the assessment to drive instruction and prepare children to be successful when they encounter the FLKRS (Florida Kindergarten Readiness Screener) upon entrance into Kindergarten. *VPK Assessment Cost: The cost to providers for the initial Fall Assessment (AP1) materials and training will be free of charge. This opportunity is available to the first 50 classrooms registered for the training. The Department of Education has estimated the cost to providers wanting to continue the VPK Assessments beginning with the January assessment (AP2) to be $50 per class (which will be paid to DOE, not the Coalition). This cost will also include the materials needed for the Spring Assessment (AP3) as well as online access and instructional strategies directly related to the VPK Educational Standards. Qualifications: It is recommended that participants (Assessor/Classroom Instructor) previous complete the following VPK courses: 2008 VPK Educational Standards and Integrating the VPK Standards: Phonological Awareness.
