The Appointment Process
The process for appointment follows the Shell regulations on recruitment.
Your application form and CV will be assessed to ensure that you meet the criteria.
A longlist of candidates is drawn up from these applications.
If you are placed on the longlist you will then be interviewed by telephone by the WCL recruitment
personnel dedicated to Shell schools. From the telephone interviews a shortlist will be drawn up by
Panaga School and Shell Education Services Department (SESD). Candidates on the shortlist will be
then interviewed by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company and SESD. These interviews are likely to take
place in November 2013 in The Hague, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.
Please do not include any references or testimonials with your application as these will be requested
when required.
The closing date is midday on Monday 7th October 2013.

The Teachers
The teachers will have all met the following requirements:





Certified teaching status through a recognised qualification such as a degree in Education,
PGCE or equivalent. They will have proven experience teaching an international curriculum at
primary level and must have experience of teaching an English language curriculum.
A deep knowledge and proven experience of current best practice in the field of teaching and
learning and classroom management.
Proven working experience in education; they will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill
in professional practice as it relates to diverse and international environments.
Ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
Ability to manage a range of internal and external stakeholders.
The Curriculum
Shell and Shell affiliated schools set out to provide a suitable education to enable children to reach
and maintain the highest standard possible. The intention is that children will fit in well to any
educational setting when they transfer. All Shell and Shell affiliated schools work according to the
International Primary Curriculum (IPC). For further information about the IPC, please visit

Language and mathematics are taught using the National Curriculum for England or a similar
curriculum. International Schools’ Assessments are used to monitor achievement in these subjects.
School life
The pupil-teacher ratio is lower than average so that children whose first language is different from
the language of instruction and those with specific educational needs, can receive extra help. The low
ratio also takes into account the fact that children may enter and leave the school during the
academic year and may miss periods of schooling when parents have, for operational reasons, to
take holidays in term time. Few children in Shell schools spend more than four years in the same
location. The terms, holidays and hours of work at Shell and Shell-affiliated schools are similar to
those in the UK and other European countries. Everyone is expected to contribute fully to the life of
the school and the wider expatriate community, and there are many opportunities to do so.
Most parents are supportive and very interested and involved in their children’s education.
Consultation evenings and curriculum events form part of the normal school activities, as do staff
meetings and other school based activities.
Social life in Shell locations is usually varied and rewarding, although certain activities are subject to
local restrictions concerning alcohol and dress. Many people enjoy the good sporting facilities that are
offered and take part in community events.
