To decide what your topic is for the purpose of your membership site. To create the website in WordPress format and install Wishlists as a WP plug-‐in STEP 1: DECIDE YOUR NICHE It is important that you choose a niche that is monetisable when creating your membership site. What does the word “monetizable” mean? It means that there is a demand for the services or products you are marketing from other people. If you don’t know what other people’s demand is, observe the people around you. You may be surprised that the monetizable niche is just round the corner. For example, one of my learners is passionate about helping other people to manage their finance. When I asked her further what she meant by that, she told me that from her experience, many people (although I don’t know how much) are poor money managers, and some of them have thus incurred huge debts. So, from this conversation, I reckon that her niche is “debt management” and you can find this topic below. STEP 2: CREATE YOUR OWN WEBSITE USING WORDPRESS Let’s me differentiate a website using WordPress from a WordPress blog. You are going to market your products or services with a view to profit. So, you are not allowed to use WordPress blog for such purposes but a website using WordPress format. You need to find a hosting service that allows you to upload the website. There are many service providers. For me, I use Bluehost (http://www.bluehost.com). If you decide to sign up for the hosting service using Bluehost, I would appreciate it if you could use this link: http://www.bluehost.com/track/jwong139 Once you login to your Bluehost account, you can choose a domain name. Here are some tips when choosing your domain name: • The URL should be relevant to your niche • The length of the URL should be optimal. If you can remember the URL, so can other people. • The URL should exclude the use of number such as “4” which is intended to be a substitute of the word “for” • The URL should exclude duplicate letters – e.g. www.thissshouldbe.com • Think about other people who are engaged in domaning activities. So, when your URL is onlinetradingforprofit.com, think about buying onlinetradingforprofits.com. Personally, I have used WL for more than 2 years and am satisfied with their services. Currently, WL offers a single licence for US$97 or Multiple-‐sites licence for US$297. They used to offer US$197 package for 3 licences but it was no longer offering. Check out http://member.wishlistproducts.com/#options to find out the scope of services covered under each of these packages. If you intend to set up a few membership site, it would appear that multiple-‐sites licence would be your choice. The licence is in the form of a WP Plug-‐in. For Lesson 1: 1.
