Having Android as your main computer operating system however is not
guaranteed to work - driver support, and a ton of stuff may or may not be
there, so it’d be best if you first try running Android via a USB drive to
check compatibility.

Otherwise, all efforts to bring Android to PCs is courtesy of the Android-x86 project. Android is a Linuxbased platform after all, so the core is there.

I have best of both worlds. Mountain Lion Macbook Pro, and a Windows 8
PC desktop. But Android....only on mobile. Oh and as far as iOS...well...lol.
It's a joke.

Actually the best of both worlds would be windows 7 and mac osx. windows
8 is just awful, unless it's on a touchscreen, then it's just frustrating and
borderline unusable. Windows Phone is decent, but when there's an OS
like android, why bother?

There's probably as many programs available for x86-android as mountain lion, you
should give it a shot! You might even get to use 2 mouse buttons!

Yea that doesn't really make sense. For mobile use, by all means. But as a
desktop operating system? What would it offer that Windows doesn't?

It's great , but there's a few problem .
It might be easy to install , but it's super damn hard to uninstall .
Sleep is broken . Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't . For
example , when I close the lid of my laptop , sometimes it will sleep like on
normal android , but sometimes it will shut down !
Performance is decent . I got the same score on antutu as the Asus
Transformer prime . Except on nenamark it got 17 fps only . My laptop is
very old using Intel Pentium Dual Core 1.9ghz with 3GB ram .

Some apps can't install or won't run . Example Skype , angry birds and
quadrant . Adobe flash don't work .
I recommend if you are trying it to create a partition (few GBs is enough ) .
Live cd has terrible performance .

This is an interesting info about the processing performance.
Can you tell more about the laptop's CPU and GPU?
I know many conservative, prejudiced guys here would say that even an old
Pentium is a processing monster compared to current mobile chips.

Its a budget laptop , hey i live in a 3rd world country , my family is not really
welloff .
Intel Pentium dual core inside 1.86ghz with no GPU and 1GB ram (i added
the 2gb myself .
I admit the laptop isnt very powerful , but with windows 8 installed good
enough to do my day to day chores

WOW...I am waiting for this...Since Unity introduction, I stopped using Ubuntu Linux. Probably I try
to run Android on my PC.
However, I am waiting for Google to launch officialy Android for PC...

I installed this since early last year running Gingerbread on my PC . Now I installed the
ICS version on my PC . I can say its good enough to be a daily driver

This is kinda old news to those who truly follow android and not just buy the phone and think that
they become a tech guru overnight. I've had ice cream sandwich and jelly bean installed for
years, along with meego, windows phone 7 and now windows phone 8. This is how true
developers test their apps. This is why I'm looking forward to jolla. Android is too buggy. Windows
is partially locked down. I've almost completely ported meego to a coby 7'' music player. I'm
waiting for the jolla sdk.

ASUS is the best for Android x86 its an old info. But before intalling run in live mode,check for cpu
variation .iso. Intel or amd.

I started running Android ICS on my Lenovo S10-3t touchscreen netbook this past summer. It
came with Windows 7, and after upgrading it with a fresh install to Win7 Pro and eliminating the
bloatware, it was still too slow.
It really speeds it up. The latest version I have is the Release Candidate version 2, so it does still
have it's share of bugs, but it basically turns it into a tablet with a dedicated keyboard. It's great
for living room web surfing, organizing, etc., but I also have it connected to Google Drive and
have work tools setup on it as well.
It's basically like combining a tablet with a Chromebook. You have all the benefits of a
Chromebook (quick startup, virus free web browsing, document creation via Google Drive) and
the ability to run most apps in the Google Play store, plus a drive to save your data to.
I'd honestly consider making the move to an official Android netbook or laptop. I'd just like to see
support for connecting directly to a Cisco or Avaya serial port for console configuration. If it had
that, it'd be my dedicated work laptop. For now, it's my dedicated home laptop.
