What is the Friends of the JSAC? The Friends of the JSAC* (also known as Friends and/or FJSAC) was formed as a Texas non-profit corporation in early 2003. Shortly thereafter, the organization applied for recognition as a tax-exempt entity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service. Subsequently, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has issued franchise, sales and use tax exemptions to the Friends. The organization’s fiscal year ends on June 30. As a result, the organization qualifies as a full-fledged charitable organization; donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. The Friends was formed for the explicit purpose of rasing scholarship funds for Texas youth. Current plans call for at least three activities per year. First is a general and on-going solicitation of financial support from the general public. Second, the Friends plan to sponsor a fund-raising bowling tournament each year. And third, the Friends will sponsor a cooking team in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo™. This event is intended to provide a forum in which existing supporters can make contact with additional prospective supporters, which in turn will increase the overall amount that the Friends will be able to contribute toward scholarship funding. Rather than establish its own criteria and procedures for awarding scholarships, the Friends will fund one or more annual $18,000 scholarships through the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo ™ and scholarships will be granted under already existing criteria and procedures. The Friends is a non-membership organization. There are no dues to be paid and no one is considered “a member.” The current officers serving the organization are: Jen Marie Rau Chairman of the Board Hunter landers President Ruth Burnett Vice President Carol Hudson Secretary and Treasurer If you would like more information about the organization, please feel free to contact: Ms. Carol Hudson 281-362-8501 To make a commitment, please make your check payable to Friends of the JSAC (FJSAC) and mail to: Friends of the JSAC Carol Hudson 67 S.
