While the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM and its activities are
not related to, or sponsored by, your school district, the school district
has approved the distribution of this activity booklet.
The Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM awards
scholarships every year to graduating public high school
seniors living in the Houston area and throughout Texas.
Since the Show began in 1932, more than $350 million has
been committed to the youth of Texas. Currently, more than
2,000 students are on Show scholarships, attending more
than 100 different Texas colleges and universities. The value
of these scholarships is approximately $30 million.
As you grow older, you may want to raise an animal such as
a calf, pig, lamb or goat. When the animal grows up, you
may even want to show it at the Houston Livestock ShowTM.
You can sell your animal at the Show’s auctions and earn
scholarship money for college.
Remember to stay in school, do your homework and make
good grades! One day, all of your hard work might earn you a
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship.

Be sure to visit Fun on the Farm in Kids Country at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo from
March 4 – 23, 2014!
At this interactive educational exhibit, you can explore what life on a working farm is like and take part in exciting daily
chores, such as:
»» Gathering eggs from the hen house
»» Planting vegetables, such as peppers and tomatoes
»» Harvesting fruits and vegetables
»» Milking a cow
After making your way through the farm, you will complete your
chores by selling your collected goods at the Farmers Market
and spending your earnings in the grocery store.
This is the ideal exhibit for you to see how food gets from
the farm to your table!

»» Horses can sleep both lying down and standing up.
»» Baby horses are able to walk and run shortly after they are
born.

»» ...do not sweat because they don’t have sweat glands. This means they are naturally clean and become dirty when
they roll in the mud to cool themselves off.

»» A female pig is known as a sow, while a male pig is a boar.
»» Hogs have four toes on each foot. Each toe ends in a hoof.

»» A sow can have a littler of up to 12 piglets about twice a year.
»» Some pigs have straight tails while others have curly, corkscrew-like tails.
»» Fully grown hogs can weigh up to 300-500 pounds.

Admission tickets and Season Passes are not valid for Reliant Stadium or
