NZFFBS certificated budget advisers help families/whanau find satisfaction and security in handling their own financial affairs through the development of good money management skills. To become an adviser working in an NZFFBS Inc affiliated budget service you need to complete our unique and comprehensive training course - The Budget Adviser Introductory Course. Other objectives for an adviser include: This is a course of 12 modules followed by a supervised practical phase (to hone your new skills). The 12 modules cover: Reduction and elimination of debt; • Increased awareness of spending and saving patterns; • Change in financial priorities; • Happier personal and family relationships; • A more affordable life style. Budget advice is, therefore, a matter of education, guidance and support in financial matters. The quality of the advice depends greatly on the skills of the adviser and the relationship between the adviser and the client. What is the Code of Ethics? • Respect for the needs and independence of clients. Advisers show empathy and understanding when assisting families to budget for their own needs and lifestyle, respecting their choices and their right to withdraw from budgeting at any time. Support and advice is offered without prejudice. Total confidentiality which is never breached. Budget advisers maintain total confidentiality in all matters. Before discussing details with creditors, court officials, agencies and other third-party, advisers first obtain permission from the client family according to the provisions of the Privacy Act 1993. • An environment of co-operation and accountability. Budget advisers display reliability, integrity and accountability, working as representatives of their local service when communicating with individuals, families, creditors or any other people. • Operations that reflect Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Budget advisers accept that Te Tiriti o Waitangi is fundamental to the operations of the budget service and they reflect this in the way they recognise each person’s uniqueness and offer the client family choices. • Ongoing training support and supervision of all staff. Budget advisers accept initial and ongoing training. Resources, support and supervision offered by the budget service are necessary to maintain standards as set out in the procedures of the New Zealand Federation of Family Budgeting Services Inc. The Code of Ethics is the guiding principle for budget advisers when working within their service and community with their clients. All affiliated budget services are expected to ensure that their staff know of, and abide by, the Code of Ethics: SA Who are open minded, interested in people, and who enjoy helping others.
