Multi-Tiered Systems of Support at West Fargo High School Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) MTSS is a multi-step, data-based process of providing instruction and support to promote the academic success of all children. WFHS uses an MTSS-Standard Protocol application, in which a standard set of empirically supported instructional approaches are implemented to prevent and remediate academic or social/emotional problems. The mission of MTSS at West Fargo High School is to provide high-quality instruction and intervention matched with student academic and/or social emotional needs. MTSS Reading Pathway The MTSS reading pathway includes four levels of placement: Intensive, Strategic, Benchmark, and Advanced. All students are screened using STAR and those below the 40th percentile are administered the easyCBM Multiple-Choice Reading Comprehension test for placement in the following pathway: Intensive – Below the 40th percentile on STAR and below the 20th Percentile on easyCBM: Enrolled in Language! based on placement test and an MTSS Study Hall Strategic – Below the 40th percentile on STAR and between the 20th and 39th Percentile on easyCBM: Enrolled in core coursework, Read to Achieve, and MTSS Study Hall Benchmark – Between the 40th and 75th percentile on STAR: Enrolled in core coursework Advanced – Above the 75th percentile on STAR: Enrolled in core coursework, advanced placement, and/or enrichment MTSS Math Pathway The MTSS math pathway includes four levels of placement: Intensive, Strategic, Benchmark, and Advanced. All students are screened using STAR and those below the 40th percentile are administered the easyCBM Algebra test for placement in the following pathway: Intensive – Below the 40th percentile on STAR and below the 20th Percentile on easyCBM: Enrolled in Transmath Level I, II, or III based on placement test Strategic – Below the 40th percentile on STAR and between the 20th and 39th Percentile on easyCBM OR D or F in previous semester of math: Enrolled in core coursework and 21st Century Math Skills Benchmark – Between the 40th and 75th percentile on STAR: Enrolled in core coursework Advanced – Above the 75th percentile on STAR: Enrolled in core coursework, advanced placement, and/or enrichment Multi-Tiered Systems of Support at West Fargo High School MTSS Agreement – Reading Pathway Students in the MTSS Reading Placement Pathway are reading content area text below the 40th percentile, with specific deficits in comprehension and fluency and/or phonics. In order for them to access and understand the content in your course, they will need your support and selected accommodations. These accommodations are required by WFPS for all students identified in the MTSS Reading Placement Pathway. Students on an IEP/ILP/504 may have other accommodations or modifications in addition to this. Teacher Responsibility: 1. Provide copy of notes for access during the lecture/discussion. 2. Allow extra time to complete assessments. 3. Allow assessments to be read OR taken in a distraction reduced environment. 4. Allow access to text in an audio format whenever possible. 5. Consider accommodations for reading and writing assignments. 6. Communicate consistently with students, MTSS Coach and parents. Student Responsibility: 1. Follow along during lecture/discussion and highlight or add to notes provided to them. 2. Be prepared for assessments in order to complete them in an appropriate amount of time. 3. Request to have assessments read or to be taken in a distraction reduced environment. 4. Access text in an audio format when necessary. 5. Communicate consistently with teacher, MTSS Coach and parents. Parent Responsibility: 1. Communicate consistently with teacher, MTSS Coach and student. 2. Check grades frequently.
