WHAT IS THE TFRW PATRON PROGRAM?
By: 2012 Patron Co-Chairs, Merri Easterly and Judy Smith
In
1984, TFRW President Barbara
Campbell, said, “We have got to
have a fundraiser. We just can’t make
it on potholders and notepaper.”
So, Estelle Teague, a long-time
Republican activist and TFRW Board
member, started the TFRW Patron
Program, patterned after the NFRW
Regent Program, for an annual
contribution of $250. Patrons received
specially designed pins with the year on
them.
Estelle knew that this special
program required special perks for the
ladies. The first year, she got the
Governor to make them all Honorary
Yellow Roses. The next year, she got
George Bush to make them admirals in
the Texas Navy.
Over the years,
Patrons have enjoyed many special
opportunities for their support of the
Patron Program.
Today, as in 1984, you can still
become a Patron by donating $250
annually to TFRW. And, although
inflation has affected almost every other
product or service we enjoy, the perks
of the Patron Program have only gotten
bigger and better – and for the same
amount we paid 30 years ago.
There are three (3) categories of
TFRW Patron Membership:
1.Patron - are members of the most
powerful women's organization in our
great State of Texas, The Texas
Federation of Republican Women,
who wish to take their TFRW
membership to the next level by
making a commitment of $250
annually to the Texas Federation of
Republican Women.
They include
members of the U. S. Congress, the
Texas
Legislature,
Judges,
top
executives and community leaders.
2.Patron Associate – For men only.
This year, in order to accommodate
Patron spouses and other special men
who support our TFRW activities, we
have
established
a
“Patron
Associate” category for men. Patron
Associates enjoy most of the Patron
perks, and for only $100 per year.
3.Patron Club - The Patron Club
Membership is held in the name of
the Club for use by the President
during her term of office. If the
President is unable to complete her
term of office, the club can assign the
benefits of the Club membership to
the person who assumes that position.
If the President is unable to attend a
Patron event and would like for
another club member to attend in her
place, another member can be
designated for that event. Patron
Club Memberships are $250 per year.
We would like to encourage all
Republican Women’s clubs to put the
Patron fee in their yearly budget so
that each year their President may
enjoy the “perks” of the Patron
program. This is a way to honor,
reward or say “thank you” for all her
hard work, as well as keeping her
better informed.
All TFRW Patron categories have the
privilege of receiving the bi-monthly
President's Newsletter and invitations to
all TFRW Board Meetings and events.
They are invited to exclusive receptions at
TFRW meetings featuring special guest
speakers and photo opportunities with
elected officials.
They receive a
specially-designed membership pin, and
reserved priority seating at all TFRW
functions.
It’s not too late to become part of
the 2012 Patron Program and enjoy the
“perks” of Patron membership for the
rest of the year.
Today, the Patron Program is
critical in supporting TFRW and the
work it does for our candidates and the
Republican Party. In 2010, TFRW
members logged more than 800,000
volunteer
hours.
They
were
instrumental in electing 101 Republican
members to the Texas House,
maintaining a Republican majority in
the Texas Senate and defeating several
long time Democrat Congressmen.
HOWEVER, OUR WORK IS NOT
DONE! As we look forward to the allimportant 2012 elections, let’s remember
how critical it is that we continue to support
TFRW and the work it does for our
candidates and the Republican Party.
Join us in supporting TFRW through
our Patron Program. Patron Membership
Forms can be found on the TFRW website
at www.TFRW.org . Just fill out the
appropriate
Patron
Membership
Application form and send it in today,
along with your check in the total amount
of the annual membership or select one of
the other payment options. You don’t want
to miss any of the exciting events we have
planned.
Together, we can make a difference in
2012.

Ladies:
Last night, at the conclusion of the meeting, I was given the
opportunity to take some leftover food to the Comal County Sheriff’s
Office Night Patrol Unit.
I made contact with Sgt Mike Smith – the Night Officer In Charge
– and presented these items on YOUR behalf. They were so grateful
and asked that I express their appreciation. Many thanks – ladies –
the food really made a difference.
Very Kind Regards,

TENTH ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP RECEPTION, A WINNER!
By: Joan Stachiw, Publicity Chairman
W
hen Bar-W does something, it does it right. On
April 11, the members under the direction of
Bar-W hostess Audrey Cheatum entertained about 100
people with hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad,
deviled eggs and, of course, apple pie. The theme this year
was Americana and it was done up right. Everyone had a
good time, the decorations were in keeping with the theme.
Everything about the evening was delightful.
The Blessing of the Food was performed by Bar-W

Legislative Chairman Gloria Lamoureux, Guest Brigetta

Color Guard was provided by Canyon Lake High School
Junior ROTC and the Pledges of Allegiances by Olivia
Burleigh. The National Anthem was sung by Seeley
Stephens. President Hazel Roman welcomed the members,
guests and elected officials. Bar-W 1st Vice President of
Programs Andrea Dziuba introduced keynote speaker
Justice Dale Wainwright.
A conservative Justice on the Texas Supreme Court,
Justice Wainwright emphasized the importance of the
upcoming election. He believes that the Constitution is the
best protector of our rights and that those rights are under
attack. He discussed several cases, past and under
consideration now, that exemplify these attacks. He
pointed out that 26 states contend that Obamacare’s
individual mandate, at least, is unconstitutional. He

asked at the three day hearing and concluded that at least
several Justices have grave doubts about Obamacare.
Another case he discussed is the so called Arizona
Immigration Act which is winding its way toward the
Supreme Court.
He pointed out that the Justice
Department isn’t saying the law is unconstitutional, but
rather that it is okay for the federal government to not
enforce one of its own laws if it chooses not to. His retort
is, “Why have a law if you are not going to enforce it?”
Justice Wainwright has been to Bar-W several
times over the years and has always been a dynamic
speaker. He was presented with a book for his

ARE YOU EATING ENOUGH FISH?
By: Jan Tilley, Women’s Fitness
O
ne of my all-time favorite
dishes is the Hot n' Crunchy
Trout at Huisache Grill in New
Braunfels, Texas. Last week my fish
market had some beautiful trout fillets, and I decided to try to
create my own version of this amazing dish. It was such a hit
at my house, I decided to share it with you!
Speaking of fish, you probably know that the American
Heart Association recommends we eat fish at least two times
a week. But—do you know why?
Current research shows that eating fish just two times a
week has a powerfully positive impact on overall health.
Numerous studies have found that omega-3’s play a role in
reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease by working to
lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. They help to
protect the body against heart disease and are also thought to
be beneficial for healthy joints, brainpower, and even easing
some of the symptoms of depression. Omega-3 fatty acids are
essential for optimum health. They are labeled as essential
because our bodies can’t manufacture them. Therefore, we
must obtain them from foods that we eat. Omega-3 fatty acids
are found in the highest levels in “fatty” fish such as salmon,
anchovies, sardines and trout. They are beneficial for the
heart of both healthy individuals, as well as, for those with
high risk of -- or suffering from -- cardiovascular
disease. Additional sources of Omega-3 fatty acids include
leafy green vegetables, nuts, tofu, and vegetable oils.
Fish is very adaptable so get creative! Each serving is
3.5 oz. cooked, or about ¾ cup of flaked fish. Try salmon
burgers or shrimp quesadillas. Work to eliminate the word
“fried” from your vocabulary! Instead, bake, broil or grill
your fish! Choose low-sodium, low fat seasonings such as
spices, herbs, lemon juice and other flavorings. Toss fish with
pasta for a change of pace. Seafood can also be a great snack!
Try albacore tuna fish salad or a smoked salmon wrap made
with dried cranberries, chopped apples, grated cheddar cheese
and baby greens.
Hot n' Crunchy Trout

the street one day a
corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car
and died. His soul arrives in heaven and
is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter.
"Before you settle in, it seems there is a
problem. We seldom see a high official
around these parts, you see, so we're not
sure what to do with you."
"No problem, just let me in," says the
Senator.
"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders
from the higher-ups. What we'll do is
have you spend one day in hell and one in
heaven. Then you can choose where to
spend eternity."
"Really?, I've made up my mind. I
want to be in heaven," says the Senator.
"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the
elevator and he goes down, down, down
to hell.
The doors open and he finds himself
in the middle of a green golf course. In
the distance is a clubhouse and standing
in front of it are all his friends and other
politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening

dress. They run to greet him, shake his
hand, and reminisce about the good times
they had while getting rich at the expense
of the people. They played a friendly
game of golf and then dined on lobster,
caviar and the finest champagne. Also
present is the devil, who really is a very
friendly guy and he is having a good time
dancing and telling jokes.
They are all having such a good time
that before the Senator realizes it, it is
time to go. Everyone gives him a hearty
farewell and waves while the elevator
rises.
The elevator goes up, up, up and the
door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is
waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit
heaven.”
So, 24 hours passed with the Senator
joining a group of contented souls
moving from cloud to cloud, playing the
harp and singing. They have a good time
and before he realizes it, the 24 hours
have gone by and St. Peter returns.
"Well, you've spent a day in hell and
another in heaven. Now choose your
eternity."

Opinions expressed in articles,
are not necessarily the opinions of Bar-W.
The Senator reflects for a minute,
then he answers: "Well, I would never
have said it before, I mean heaven has
been delightful, but I think I would be
better off in hell."
So St. Peter escorts him to the
elevator and he goes down, down, down
to hell…
Now the doors of the elevator open
and he's in the middle of a barren land
covered with waste and garbage. He sees
all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up
the trash and putting it in black bags as
more trash falls to the ground.
The devil comes over to him and puts
his arm around his shoulders.
"I don't understand," stammers the
Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there
was a golf course and clubhouse, and we
ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne,
danced and had a great time. Now there's
just a wasteland full of garbage and my
friends look miserable. What happened?"
The devil smiles at him and says,
"Yesterday we were campaigning. Today,
you voted."
