8-32 Core Servers for Abaqus
(fast; all solvers; easy admin;
large memory)
Abaqus has been rearchitected
to run jobs in parallel on
distributed memory clusters,
with scalability improving in
each new release. This opens a
new choice for Abaqus users.

Meet Shorty –
www.hp.com/go/shorty
an easily deployed cluster for Abaqus
(optional)
•
Modular C3000 design enables mix of direct attached
disk and compute nodes for Abaqus/Standard and
Abaqus/Explicit
•
120volt / 30amp precludes 3 phase 240v wiring
•
Choice of GigE or InfiniBand interconnect with HP-MPI
running on Windows or Linux
•
Consider DC Xeon X5260 or QC Opteron
•
Consider turnkey XC middleware for Linux

x64 SuperCluster for Abaqus
•
one rack with 3 c-Class enclosures and 192 cores
•
XC software (with LSF & HP-MPI licenses)
•
1 head node (DL380G5, 8GB mem, 4x146GB disk)
•
48 compute nodes (16 2p/4c hh blades per enclosure)
− two 3.33GHz dual core Xeon5260 processors
− 2GB/core
− two 146GB SAS internal disks
•
4xDDR InfiniBand cluster interconnect
− 1:1 within an enclosure of 64 cores
− 2:1 between the two enclosures
•
Ethernet management/console switches, TFT monitor/keyboard
•
Services
− factory integration & on-site h/w s/w installation
− 3 year S/W and Next Day hardware support
Note: Abaqus/Standard benefits from InfiniBand’s low latency and 2nd disk/node;
but for Abaqus/Explicit only, save $ with GigE switch and one 36GB disk per node
Status of Abaqus on HP 64-bit systems
•
Abaqus 6.9 in 2009 will be available on the Itanium/HP-UX platform only upon
special request. Itanium/Linux remains at standard platform support.
•
Abaqus 6.8 released 20-May-08 with platform support shown below
− new Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analysis capability supports parallel processing
− solver enhancements to reduce memory / disk usage and improve scaling
− supports 64-bit Windows CCS, Windows Server 2008, SLES10.2, RHEL5 & HP-UX
•
Abaqus 6.7 enhanced parallel execution on clusters (May-07)
•
Abaqus 6.6 first distributed HP-MPI as part of Abaqus (6.6.1 Apr-06)
