Preparing for 8th Grade in 7th Grade
• In 7th grade, show a strong work ethic and
strive to make good grades
• Take advanced level core courses
• Learn how to manage time
• Students taking high school courses in 8th
grade must be recommended by 7th grade
teacher. Do your best!
Preparing for High School in the 8th Grade
• If in high school credit courses (Algebra,
IPS, Computing for College Careers,
Spanish), do your best. The mid semester
and final semester grade in this course will
stay on your transcript.
• Take advantage of the IPS and Algebra
tutoring that is offered by Mr. Clemens and
Mrs. Accardi. It always helps to hear
information a different way.
• Learn how to manage life and school. Next
year, 7 courses will go towards your GPA.

Step # 1 - Apply
Current students who have been continuously enrolled* in HCPS in grades 6th 8th should complete their application online for Magnet High Schools.
December 4, 2012 - January 9, 2013.
* See step 2.
Step # 2 - Transcripts
Students who have been continuously enrolled in HCPS all of 6th and 7th grade
and thus far in 8th grade,
do not need to submit transcripts because the transcript is already in our system.
* If the student has not been continuously enrolled in HCPS grades 6th-8th, then
the student will need to complete the paper application. Please download,
complete, and submit the application along with your transcripts.
Applications missing transcripts will not be processed.
Magnet Schools Cont.
Step # 3 - Writing Sample and Audition (if applicable)
HCPS students take the FCAT mid-year writing sample in their current middle school during
the week of November 5 - 16, 2012. This writing sample will be used for the high school magnet
application.


Blake will host auditions January 23, 2013. Registration begins at 3:00 pm and ends at 5:00 pm.
Application Deadline Dates
The deadline to apply for a Magnet/School Choice high school program is
January 9, 2012
Notification Dates
Students will receive notification of their results at the
end of February 2013.
