Re: Guide to Load Point Cloud Data in TopoDOT – Flow Chart
Loading Point Cloud Data in TopoDOT
This guide’s purpose is to illustrate the many methods to import data in TopoDOT and
to help the user decide which is the most practical method for the current application.
The following flow charts show the options to load pointcloud data in TopoDOT based
on the data type (terrestrial or static, airborne, mobile, etc) and the file type (ASCII, LAS,
DOT, etc). The flow paths show which specific tool to use (all tools are display in
“quotation” marks); nevertheless, it does not explain how to use the tools. For further
instructions on the tools use, please refer to the same graphs under the TopoDOT Wiki
Manual. There you will be able to find direct links form the flow chart boxes to the tool’s
description.

* All menus are marked in italics
* All file types, including the ones not listed here, could be loaded using "load data from file".
If data file is lager than 2GB decimate data using "thin data" tool and load the data using "load data from file"
1
If file is too large, decimate data using "thin data" tool
2
This option will re-classify data by point source id to display single passes/flight lines.
It wont override current classification unless file is exported.
3
Best for data processing due to concise area to load (can load more tiles at time)
4
This option works on one file at a time. If data is separated into multiple files, use "LAS Merge" tool first
